79 cb750 "brat" with Velorex 563 sidecar project.

I've got a 79 cb750k I've been working on getting into a brat type bike. Slowly coming together but should be ready by June. Along with that I've got a older Velorex 563 model sidecar I received from a friend that needs some refurbishing.

Frame is in great shape, fiberglass has been checked out and I've had it repainted black for a lack of color scheme ideas. I've been looking for a shop to get some parts ordered and start getting this thing together but have a question.

Is it impossible to fabricate a quick disconnect setup for a velorex sidecar? I'm by no means a fabricator but I would think once you found the proper mounting points on the frame, you could weld up tabs to have bolts or some type of high strength connection.

Thanks for any response, any help or knowledge is appreciated.

I'm excited and can't wait to be riding with my lab/shepherd this summer. I will definitely get pictures rolling in as I make more progress. I've been working way to much to get anything done beyond ordering parts and Detabbing the frame.

I have always wanted a sidehack rig. I look forward to this build. My dogs would love the ride.

This is my first attempt at building a bike and I'm trying to make sure it's done right the first time. Going with the Speed moto company dual mikuni carb setup, new harness from Sparck.

Getting the engine looked over by a quality mechanic since I have no clue what I'm looking at. ( I have a 70s cb400 I will learn engine rebuilding on next year ). So hopefully it turns out half as good as I envision it.

my carb setup will work well for you with that setup it improves low end torque quite a bit

make sure you get a coil relay mod kit from matt when you order your harness and as soon as you get it running make sure you

check the charging system over

any weakness in the charging system translates to almost immediate ignition system problems and miss firing

You can do it all with clamps. There's loads of side car clamps available all shapes and sizes. Always loads on the UK eBay anyway.
I would worry about a quick disconnect set up.
Once you've got it set up right for your bike you won't want to take it off.
There's no going back from the dark side.

From experience...just a few things to consider:

1) You will need connect/disconnect for the electricals (right turn signals on when solo/off with the hack)

2) Hack needs its own turn signals and brake light, possibly an aux headlamp

3) Once your hack is on and you ride a bit, you will find that you need to beef your cycle's suspension any way you can to stiffen up (fork oil, heavier springs, etc)...which may translate to way too stiff for solo. Also, depending on what you use the sidecar for, you may find that you may want to modify your bike's gearing...again that gearing may not be suitable for solo.

4) You may also find that a steering damper is necessary...another connection to think about

5) The miles you put on a hack rig are going to wear your bike's tires a certain way...perhaps to the point of affecting solo handling

6) Even though there are only 4 physical attachment points, attaching and detaching, particularly by yourself can be a real bitch because you are trying to slide the bike or sidecar sideways in order to connect and not disturb the angles of your attachment tubes.

Re: 79 cb750 "brat" with Velorex 563 sidecar project.

I have just finished a velorex 700 sidecar conected to a vfr750 86. Had to make a sub frame to mount to bike frame and then sidecar conects to subframe. Not the prettiest but it works. Had it out the road and it handles sweet.

Sweet, more pictures please, have you started a thread on this?

Not much progress on sidecar or 750. Got the engine back from rebuild and seat pan built.. my 08 dyna blew out the crank bearing and had to rebuild as soon as we got back from Europe. 7k or so all said and done so that kinda drained my 750 sidecar build

Thanks for the replies. Il definitely keep you guys updated when get going again

I recommend plenty of padding.
I've found that steering a chair puts more pressure through my arse as it is more of a leverage point than on a solo.

And if you get into some serious drifting / hoonig - make sure plenty of upper thigh padding. Your body is used far more dynamically than on a solo !!
