'81 TR1 build.................(yup another Mojave tank combo!!)

Updates coming thick and fast during the Xmas break....................glad to get out of the house away from the chocolates

Got the exhaust and silencer mounted, added a few details to the header flanges to make them a bit more interesting.

Welded in some vacuum take off points on the intake manifolds, which I'd forgotten to do. It was a bit tight around the back edge, but got there in the end. Got the carbs mounted ready for the cables to go in. Tank has been lined with the POR-15 and is curing for a week or two.

Next job is to get the front brake pipes sorted along with the throttle, clutch, wiring, setup, bleed brakes, speedo, tuning........................................

you got any specs on the carbs??? Bought mine from Allens last year and have only briefly run them, just to see if the motor worked. I asked him to jet them based on my mods and taking into account the original specs for bike. I'm anticipating a bit of fine tuning of the jetting when the time comes to run it in anger ::)

Wrote them down somewhere. Will get back to you. One thing I do remember is we tried to get it running with some nice velocity stacks, didn't like it, hence the use of tea strainers instead.

A truly impressive build Ichris.....read it all from page1.....good job I'm ill. Attention to detail will be worth the time/effort.

Makes my project look like a schoolboy's. Hope to see it in the flesh next year somewhere....I'll be sure to spot it :D

WOW !!! just came across your build, OUTSTANDING!!!!! love the work and attention to detail, it's the small things that make the build and the builder in my opinion. question if I could, where did you get / source that crinkle paint cover, did you do that in your oven? love the black on silver with that crinkle, exactly the look I am hoping to achieve when I get my thing finished. carry on mate, can not wait to see the final result, I am sure it will be epic!! ;D

thanks. you are not doing to bad with your project either............loving the swingarm mods 8)

used the VHT range of paints for the whole build. They are a bit more expensive than normal paints, but they have good covering and are hard wearing. I've used them on other projects in the past. I normally get mine from ebay, couple of cans at a time. The wrinkle finish is http://www.vhtpaint.com/high-heat/vht-wrinkle-plus-coatings

baked in the oven.......

Quality build lchris! Great to see you try and change so many things until you get it exactly the way you want. A lot of guys settle for good enough. I've bookmarked this one.

thanks, just been over for a look at your GS. Loving your inspiration, looks cool 8)

First update of 2016.............Year 4 on the project..........well 3 x winters anyway ;D

Been working on the hand controls. Picked up some nice neat push-buttons over the summer instead of my original choice. They cost a few ££'s but make the cockpit a bit nicer to look at. Also threw on my CNC levers and the overhauled throttle.

Also had to do a bit of head scratching on the routing for the front brake hoses. I've seen so many nice builds let down with pipes cable tied here and there. My original plan (the easy way out) to use a boss off the fork leg would have meant excess strain on the hose during travel, so I abandoned that............Could not find anything decent looking, or unobtrusive to secure the pipes after weeks of research, so I decided to fabricate my own. Using a piece of Black acetal I had lying around I machined some split bushes and set about canablising a stainless cable tie. So you could say they are cable tied on, but not in the same sense

Also had to make up a blanking plug for the left caliper, as if you've been following the build will remember it was an ABS type which I modified to have a matching opposite pair..

While I was scratching my head on the hose bracket I threw the seat and tank on for a bit of inspiration. The pics are a bit poor as I can only see the bike in full from about 6ft away. Been trying to get it outside for the last week to take some decent pics of it, but it hasn't stopped raining since November down here

Anyway, some close up blurry ones to whet the appetite....
