I altered the seat cover a bit. I tapered & rounded the front a bit more so it would be less square.

I have to say, figuring out how to sew & then immediately sewing a seat cover was quite shallow of a learning curve. It took me a bit to figure out everything on the machine & then actually execute the sewing of the seat. The next one will be better now that I have a better grasp on the process.

My beautiful lady friend definitely deserves quite a bit of credit for guide sewing the cover as well!
 
here's the finished seat cover, I think it works pretty well, I went with a gray piping instead of the white that triumph uses, I'm pretty stoked with how it came out. It's so much better than what it was.

Yup, I like it, suits the style perfectly and it's got decent padding so you shouldn't be in agony after a bit of time on her :)

I'm kinda pissed! I went to put on my new chain w/ my new 15 tooth front sprocket and the chain won't fit because there isn't enough space around the sprocket! now I have to order and wait for a new 14 tooth to come in the mail. oh well. the chain is also way too long, anyone know any way to split a chain link w/o actually buying the tool?

Anyhow, here's some pics of the new battery box, I still need to grind down my crappy welds & then paint it, It's about the only place I could think to put the battery that would be even remotely out of the way.

I'm pretty happy with the overall look of the bike, I've just got to get her on the road now!
 
What battery are you running and what are you planning to do with the air intake? I have an 82 as well and am getting some ideas on what to do with it.

I am running a Shorai battery. They are Lithium Iron batteries that weigh around 1 pound and are incredibly small. The air intake is in the trash, I'll be running a pod filter on the single carb. I rejetted the carb too since she got a new set of lungs, I haven't had her running with the new set-up yet so we'll see how it does, I think it should be real close though!

I was wondering what, if any, mods you did with respect to mounting the tank. Early on you had mentioned something about possibly changing the angle.

I ask because I'm placing a CB 200 gas tank on the '79 CM 185T (Twinstar) frame I'm working with. I'd like to get it mounted so the bottom of the tank is nice and horizontal ... and creates a flat line that continues with the seat behind it.

It looks as if I'll need to weld new pegs for the front rubber mounts and alter the tank's brackets. (If there's a particular thread I should read here at DTT for help, let me know.)

Hmmm, not sure how he mounted the cb tank to cm frame so I can't really speak to that but what I did to my tank(stock tank) to give a more horizontal profile was I built a little wood block riser for where the tank meets the seat. It has a hole drilled through it for the mounting screw and a longer mounting screw. I also lowered the front forks about .75" by pushing them up through the tripple clams. the tank riser is roughly 2.5" and combined it gave the tank about a 3.25" angle correction. I think it worked out pretty well visually & you can't see the riser at all when the seat is on.

What I did was get the $10 Harbor Freight chain breaker and then follow this guy's instructions:

I was shortening and linking a chain for a 618cc Ducati, and it held up fine, so it should work for a 250cc bike. Plus, you don't have to use a sketchy clip type master link :D

Actually I do have a clip type master link on the new Bikemaster 520 chain, it should be fine though.

You're welcome! It saved me a lot of pain and suffering, so I'm glad to pass it on. The L-twins are a little...rough...so I felt better having a riveted chain, but you should be fine.
