Re: 82 Virago 750 Project Cafe
I have been sloooowly getting things together. Right now I am having clutch and front brake issues. I was putting on the clutch cable and somehow broke the push lever assembly on the side case. Thank god for Amazon Prime! Where it would take over a week to get something from Partzilla or even the local Yamaha dealer, I will have this tomorrow! I can't tell what the issue was. I got the cable on and pulled the lever and it snapped. I have taken the cable on and off at least 6 times since I have owned this bike and never had a problem. I did take the side cover off to replace the shift seal, but I read through the manual and didn't see anything about making sure that the clutch lever assembly had to be lined up special. The only thing I found was the fantastic way that you have to hold the starter gears in place and try to get the cover back on while dealing with a very powerful magnet. Not fun when you are working alone...
The front brakes have always been a problem since I owned this. I had them rebuilt after I powdered them. I installed all the parts, filled with fluid, and tried bleeding them, but there is no fluid coming out. If I remove the banjo bolt and line at the MC and put my finger over the hole, when I pull and let go of the lever, I feel air push on my finger and then suck it back in. I have one of those HF brake line vacuum bleeders, and if I hook it up, crack the bleeder screw, pump up the vacuum to like 15psi (I think its psi), and pull and release the brake lever I can watch the needle move down every time I pull and release. Seems like it has no problem pumping air, but it ain't moving fluid??
Anyways...Speedo mounted. I will end up powdering it. I think the bracket came out well. I can share the drawing if anyone that is cursed with a Virago wants it...lol
Electrical is finally done. Who knew that relocating the battery and license plate would be such a pain. Not to mention the keyless ignition...after hours of solder, heat shrink, tape, snakeskin, split loop and cable ties, it is done!
Shout out to my co-worker Zion for making this on his mill.
