920rh 'Special'

I think the XV motor suits a Buel style custom setup. I've looked at a few trellis options but nothing seems to suit.
Plus I love the idea of a single elegant backbone running from the steering head to the swingarm pivot with the motor providing the structure..

Something along the lines of this setup:

Something really is happening....just slowly.

I stripped and rebuilt the headlight bucket and mounts and hit them with a neat satin black texture paint from Rustoleum. It seems to be really tough and has an interesting surface finish, a nice alternative to satin or flat black for accent pieces. I made the dash panel to suit the Vapor computer, it's cut from .120" 6061 sheet, bent in my home made brake and received several coats of the texture black after a quick scour with 120 grit and a palm sander.

This and the much smaller and less obtrusive cat eye (read cheapo) turn signals makes the front end much tidier. I used some Laminex film on the headlight mostly because there are a few pretty nasty gouges already and giant 9" yellow evil eye headlight will be all the rage come spring...you just wait!

Also got my rear lights all wired into a tidy harness. I will be making a cleaner looking mounting plate to replace the cobbles multi-piece mess here.

Not in any official capacity, LIFE SHIT(tm) kinda got itself all in my way here recently. Been a bit....slim.....lately but I haven't sunk. I'll also admit that my inspiration for the blog has taken a beating along the way. I will be posting again, sooner than later......

Hang in there, hopefully more to come on the bikes soon too!

Wow, this one has languished for far too long. I have been thrashing along on other projects and keeping my head (barely) above water so the bike has been sitting longer than I'd have hoped. I have finally stolen some time to tug at the wiring harness and came to a decision; I'm only replacing what i must at this point so the bike can be ride-able this season. Over the coming winter it'll move forward into it's next stage at which point the harness will need to be completely custom. As such I've isolated the TCI/coil harness and set it up as a separate piece which will draw switched power from the M-unit. I've also rewired the Stator and Pickup portions as they were haggard by the previous owner or possibly feral children with teething issues. I've got the lighting portion laid out and terminated but haven't yet installed it as I'm still ::) trying to decide on bar switches.
I'm farther along on the rewire than what's shown in the pic but it'll give you an idea how things are shaping up. The M-unit lives under the seat with the OMP Reg/Rec unit mounted to the bottom of the plate for airflow.

There are some mechanical changes coming as well but those are for another post.....

Keep on chuggin' away, Swag muh man.
I know what you mean about keeping barely above water - I think I'm using a snorkel these days LOL.
I've been "shamed" into doing some work on my XV as well - the project has gone on longer than yours...
Maybe all of us working on any XV - shaft, chain, 750, 920, cafe, street tracker, race bike, chopper, whatever - should set a date this year and start a thread where we each submit 3 photos of our project - completed, in work, barely started - and call it the "XV challenge".
IMHO, June 30 works but what say you all?

Pat Cowan,

I'm in, on the thread, the snorkeling, and the challenge. Looks good hombre.

I had great hopes and plans but "Life Shit(tm)" got well and truly in the way. This first incarnation won't be nearly as wild as I'd hoped, more of a mild custom but at least it'll be something. Thanks for the encouragement kats....

I'm in - but can I just finish one of them ?

That's a very good point to aim for Pat .. whoa back, that IS 2014 I hope ?????

I hope to have mine rideable by then and a trip from Dallas to Co Spgs under my belt as well. Keep plugging, BC. Mines been simmering for 6 years now.

All I can offer is the standard "looking great"... seeing as though your avitar demands 95% of my attention at all times.
