Am I getting a good deal??? HELP!

I might pick up a 1973 CB350F today. I checked it out yesterday and it seemed to be in great shape overall. The current owner purchased it from the original owner, and the current owner rebuilt the carbs and brakes. New tires, battery, plugs, 6600k original miles, and a few other things I can't remember. The bike ran great. I talked him down to $2200 from what he was asking... any advice out there? pics below

Sounds about right.
No need to turn to the web for validation though. As long as you are happy with the price and bike who cares? Even if you do pay more then someone else that sting will go away after a few mikes of riding.

What ever you do don chop it up.
Ride it and enjoy it.
Learn how to keep it on the road and then get something else to cut up.

+1 on not chopping it. Keep it original. That is far to nice to cut up... Find yourself a $300.00 project bike for a cafe racer not a 2200.00 all original piece of history/art... That thing is far too beautiful to make a custom bike out of.
 
sweet ride, but like the others have said.......Dont Chop It!! that is way too nice to cut up
Ride it, learn to service it, and enjoy the compliments people will give you when they see you on it
 
Thanks for your input guys, really! So glad I checked this site out. I'm definitely happy with the price of the bike. I won't be chopping it up, couldn't do that. Although, I am looking to swap out handlebars and seat in time, but keeping originals intact. I don't want to change too much. Once I'm more familiar with mechanics & such, I'll have to look into something to restore/ customize. I'm itching for a cafe bike so bad!
 
that is a great deal! That bike looks mint. And ditto what the other guys said. Way too nice to cut up. Enjoy it.
 
Don't change the seat.
Maybe if you find a guliari seat or cycle city classics will make you one..
Also don't go lower then cb400f or superbike bars.

Low bars and stock pegs sucks
 
Leave it alone, I rode one of them in college that was a beat to death heap with super bike bars, you won't like them. Well, you do look a bit smaller than me, so maybe they would work...

That's a good price on what appears to be an extremely nice example.
 
I appreciate the input guys. I'll see what I can do with those handlebars and seat. I don't want to do any permanent changes, thats for sure. Anyways, I got the 350F! Here she is with my 1970 CT90. I think they look great together

Excellent! Like others have said, it was a good deal. You wouldn't be able to restore one for that much money. You can easily modify things without chopping it up. I'd suggest 99% of the cafe racers back in the day in the UK were not hacked and welded.

I had a stock CB550F that I goofed around with. Took the rear fender off, made a bump seat for it, put drag bars (don't know why I didn't put clubmans on). Then I put all the stock bits back on and sold it.

Every time I look at the last picture I wish I still had it :) But I sold it and bought a BMW which is bone stock so all is good.

I spent a solid $3200 on it including the $450 I paid for it. So $2200 for yours is a no brainer. Keep those mufflers you took off in a safe place (or put them back on - the raciest of Honda's had oodles of pipes sticking out the back end). And note the complete lack of Firestone tires on it :)

Woops forgot to mention that the original pipes were garbage all on the insides. Owner tossed them out when i checked out the bike. Shame they were bad...

The inserts are replaceable.

Hate to say it but it was worth the money because of the pipes.
Pipes were probably half the value of the bike.
But it was just Internet pictures, if they had holes and rot then no biggie.
 
I must be missing something. Does the bike run and if so how well or how badly?

Why on earth did the PO dump the stock pipes and fit those monstrosities? If they were rusted out, it suggests that the bike had sat for a long time and he gave it a polish to make a profit on it. The engine side covers are all buffed up and shiny so he's removed the clear coat and polished them - nice, but it looks like they were done on the bike and the part almost out of sight is still corroded.

Carb float bowls also look terrible but that may just be picture.

Tim, That bike came up really nicely. Congrats on a job well done. The less said about the middle state the better me thinks :)
