Been Around the Block
So the new multimeter arrived, allowing me to finally check out the ignition. I wanted to make sure things like the regulator were working before hooking it all up.

So first off, I thought it would be good to check the internal resistance of the ignition. The part is supposedly OEM, but my multimeter is not. The issue is I'm not getting any reading off the ignition coil connection (?) at all, which I'm suppose to have when the tester (+) lead is on it. I do get a reading when I have the tester (-) on it. Aside from that, none of my readings actually match the table - according to the manual, this means I should replace my ignition unit. Does anyone have any experience with this and know what to do? It seems to be pretty off - I'll be getting measurements in the k Ohm range when its just suppose to be in the Ohm range...

Someone had also earlier given me a range in which the regulator should be working in, but I can't seem to find that. Would anyone be able to help with that? The test provided in the manual is for a bike with the engine to be running.

Thanks.

Clarified one thing - most of you are probably aware of this but I wasn't - the regulator/rectifier controls the voltage while its running - it had been suggested to me that I should replace mine when I got the new ignition cos overvoltage is responsible for frying these things.

I assume that means I can actually test for a spark without fear of the whole thing frying?

I'm gonna give it a go...

That looks like Kawasaki manual page?
On the left side it tells you where to put - (black) lead from meter, along top is where you put + (red) lead and the matrix shows the expected reading.
As your not using Kawasaki meter, up to +/- 20% of readings will be fine
The matrix is using an analog meter, you won't get correct readings with a digital meter.
Get a cheap one from Home Depot, Radio Shack or similar (around $9.95)

Ah - I was getting 4x the readings lol, but they were constant so I ignored it. The spark seems to work, though I still haven't managed to fill it with petrol to try starting it.

Thanks - keep you guys posted on how it goes.
