Hey guys,

I have been lurking on the board here for about 3 months now and my status keeps telling me i'm in the closet, so to right this wrong, I thought I had better post something!

As the subject line suggests, I live in Australia and am a bit of a bike (and car) fanatic. I love getting out on the road and track on my current stable of bikes and recently I have become interested in the whole cafe racer scene (and also rat bikes, bobbers etc etc).

After being scared off by caferacernet (one click was all it took to be disturbed at how critical they seem!) I came across DTT through Pipeburn and you all seem like a good bunch of people who share a common interest and a wealth of information. Here's hoping I can add my 2 cents worth!

I currently have a few toys in the shed including a 2009 Triumph Speed Triple, 2009 Kawasaki ZX6R Monster Edition and a Honda CT110 'Postie Bike'.

Each of these have varying levels of mods, the Triumph has new exhaust, filter, mirror, seat cowl and various carbon goodies, the ZX6R is destined to be a dedicated track bike and presently is stripped down awaiting new fibreglass race fairings and the CT110, funnily enough is the most modified of the bunch! Fellow Aussies on here will appreciate the comedic value of modifying a bike like this!

The ZX6R as it stands at the moment:

Having read through a bunch of build threads and being inspired in particular by Ringo's Le Mans Special, I thought it was high time to have a crack at this cafe racer building business, so after a bit of searching and outlaying a tiny amount of cash, I jumped in the deep end and purchased this bucket of magnificence....a lovely '77 Yamaha XS360!

The latest victim:

As you can see, she really is a sad old girl, but in the coming months i'll hopefully be lavishing her with a bit of much needed attention (in between setting up the race bike, playing with the Speed Triple and tinkering with the daily rider....) to bring her back to life!

I am hoping to start a comprehensive build thread soon, once I get things underway and am looking forward to getting your feedback and input on the build.

Until then, I just wanted to say g'day and introduce myself, cheers!

K

Welcome to the site man!

I've seen a couple of those posties hopped up- but never one with fairings. Great collection of bikes! Maybe it's just me, but are the forks on the XS straight?

Cheers mate!

Well spotted on the XS, the forks are straight, the frame however.....

Looks like it has suffered a front end whack at some stage that has tweaked the frame. Haven't pulled the bike down too much yet to see the extent but hopefully the local frame straightener can work his wonders...

Welcome K. LOVE the postie. Very tasty indeed. I'm sure I've seen it somewhere before (netrider??). Do you have a build thread anywhere?

cheers mate

Cheers for the comments! First time it has been in the public realm, well apart from being seen in the streets around town as it is my daily ride!

Here she is not long after I bought her, had just trial fitted the clubman bars.

No probs. How easy is it to find those whitewalls? They really set the bike off.

They are actually inserts by a company called Atlas. If you search for 'white wall toppers' you should find them. They sandwich between the rim and tyre bead. Handy if you need a new set of tyres as you can reuse them!

G'day & welcome Kelvis
some good kit you have there & you have some of the best roads to ride em on. cool postie..luv the walls, did you get em from antique in west heidelberg here in vic? a good contact if your gonna make rebuilding a habit.

Hey Pete, thanks for the welcome! I got the white wall inserts from eBay. Thanks for the contact with antique, I'm usually over in Vic every couple of months so I will take a look at them next time. It certainly looks like this rebuilding thing is going to become a habit....!

White walls on the postie looks awesome ;D Hows the quality on the handlebar end mirrors? Im looking at getting the same ones for my bike.

Hey mate! Just been looking through your build thread and left you a reply about your muffler!

I originally had a chrome pair of mirrors that had screws to hold in the mirror glass...they were absolute rubbish...these new ones are heaps better, proper optical mirror lenses. The only minor gripe is the paint is a little soft. But for less than $10, I'm not complaining!
