Any interest in a small bike rally this spring?

Ok i'm trying to drum up some interest for a small bike rally this spring. I'm thinking Glen Rose, TX is a good location. Its close to DFW and sorta close to OKC. But it has really nice hill country esque roads that are much closer than Austin and I never see any bronze on the back roads. It also has a chill night life and the town is laid back. There's a bar down there called the hollywood that is nuts, two weeks ago they had a wrestling mat on their patio w grown men busting each other up. We could camp out at Solavaca ranch on the cheap as long as were civil.

I'd like to invite anyone that wants to ride, hang out, wrench, support truck, drink, BS, cook BBQ, bring beer .. whatever. We should probably try to keep this to sub 500cc bikes. I'll be riding a 125cc Motobi imp. and my wife on her vespa. I have a couple friends on Benellli 250/350's that will be involved.

I'll be throwing this out to the ducati brethren and i'm sure they will be talking elitist smack. Try to find the moped army as well. Friendly wagers and smack talking should insue. I'd love to see a swap meet since I cant seem to stop buying projects.

Well, let me know what you think and offer up ideas.

I dig the idea. I've been thinking of a meetup to ride the three sisters, or taking the Texas BBQ trail, but this could be fun as well. Any more thoughts/progress on it?

Any progress on this?

Looks like fun! Biking during the day. Drinking and campfires at night... That kind of thing!

Yeah be great to come up with something guys, I can drag a few Okies down I bet if ya get a good place! At least me and my fam and my bud SeaWolf85 could be there. Make it a good camping place and I can drag my popup out too. :D

Alright, if we don't hear back from the OP is the next week or so, let's get on planning something.

You read my mind, man! Of course closer to my home town the better for me. I hope it we can do this on a weekend when I'm not on-call at work. Hell, I'll probably truck the bike down anyway. I think my CB400 might blow up and catch fire at extended highway speeds! :-\

Yeah well, I know my 360 would make it down, I just donno what kind of rattled up shape I would be in. ;D

Sounds good either way..

Just a bump to let everyone know that I'd still like to do this. Maybe a TX/OK meetup. Somewhere in the North Texas/Southern Oklahoma area.

Alright then lets do it this way, let's get some IDEAS for WHERE and WHEN so we can all figure out HOW. I'm all about camping and ridding areas so put your best up with an idea for a time. MOST camp grounds that are state or national based are reservable so we can do what ever where ever.

Anyhow, since I'm in OK then Lake MURRY and Lake Texoma second. I like to FISH and RIDE and camp so all is good. TIME other than EASTER weekend is GOOD aside from maybe 2-3 weeks out for ME Any time is good for me.

I do have plenty to offer in that I have a sorta real HOME based camper that can at least provide cooking and cleaning area should it work out. I've just been trying like hell to figure out how to haul a bike with it.

THOUGHTS, IDEAS, COMMENTS!!?!!?!?!? Let's do this guys. ain't getting any younger. I'll take POINT if no one else want's too..

I'd prolly be game... I'm the only one of my crew with a small project but my goal for finishing my build is April 1st so.......depending on dates? It'd be a cool way to break in my 360.

Oh and I'd be coming up from Austin. So the further south the better for me. Unless someone wants to carpool.

I'd still like to do something like this before it gets too hot! I'm just not much of an organizer! I can drink beer though! ;D

Well gents I said it before, we need ideas and I'm all down for going somewhere, just need to know where and when. I can get stuff arranged I just need to know there is more interst than like 3-4 people. For me it will be at least a 2 car drive since I will need a bike hauler and my rv hauler.

I'm good for almost any weekend but we need to get HOT before the weather does.

Places needed, I think I have already said Lake Murray but anything in between DFW and OKC is good with me. We need at least 4-5 people before I will get to making arrangements.

What about the Turner Falls/Davis OK area? What kind of road riding is there around Lake Murray?

There's a KOA in Burburnett, TX, right on the TX/OK border. RV spots and tent camping. There's a few good roads around that area, but nothing spectacular.

I have a beef with the Turner, Davis, and Sulfur area and that is the cost. I spent part of spring break down there and it was $22 a night for RV $18 a night for tent camping in the OFF SEASON. Yes there is some nice riding up there but none that can not be done in a day trip from an hour out.

Murray has all sorts of interesting things to do, never mind the bike riding. There are plenty places to ride and camp and hike and whatever. The wives can go antiquing in Ardmore if they so feel.

Here's the map of the lake.

I've not been there in about a year so I need to make calls on the fee money but it was worth more than further north IMHO. Spots would be either Dukes forest or Elephant Rock, both have huge sites and can be shared over more than 2-3 tents or w/e.

My vote is the austin/wimberley area. I know that's far of Okies but pretty central for the rest of us. and amazing riding. just my .02
