Coast to Coast
Just curious I watched it live(TV) and wanted to know if anybody was able to see it? live in person or TV. I had the good fortune to see a launch while we lived in florida. Just amazing

that is on my list of things I want to do in life, watch the shuttle launch live. 8)

In the early nineties my dad worked at the Cape (doing communications for the rockets that the Air Force sent up). He had clearance to get up real close to the launch. For one of the launches I hid under a tarp in the back of his old Subaru wagon and got to watch it up close and personal. A beautiful thing.

So they are finally retiring them?

Guys,

There are three more launches scheduled, the last is now set for September 16th, 2010. Get your plans in place now.

I had the opportunity to work for NASA early in my career and got to see the first two launches. I was standing by the big clock that you see in the press coverage of the launches. The one thing that I still remember vividly is that right after the shuttle cleared the tower, I looked around and everyone was crying. It was a wonderful feeling to see it fly for the first time!

I had heard they were talking of adding more, but was not sure if it was true or not. I knew they did extend the program once already as it was originally scheduled to end in Jan. I believe. Do you know if thats right or not?

Here's the latest schedule of remaining flights:
