Heys guys,
I know it's hide in the garage season, or at least it is here in Moncton...

Thought I'd get everyone thinking about next year with a question. What's your favourite ride around the Maritimes ?

My go to when I only have a few hours is Alma, come in via Fundy park, exit towards Waterside.

If I have a day to kill ( not often with 2 kids under 3 ! ) I like to do the Parrsboro Loop in NS, or in NB I like the cable ferries around Saint John and Kingston. If you hit it right you can do 5 or 6.

Cheers,
~T

Small children...I remember those days fondly even though I was a single dad, you're right, not much free time.
Anyhow, those days have long passed, so getting back on topic, I guess one of may favorite short routes is around the Peggy's Cove loop, with the Sambro loop coming in second. If I have more time, a ride down the South Shore along the old road to Lunenburg, then up the LaHave River to Bridgewater and back is nice. I made a loop of it once riding up through the Annapolis valley then across to Liverpool from Annapolis and back home via the South Shore...again, no highway riding, just secondary roads.

I'll second Kingston peninsula and Alma, both awesome rides.

I also really like going from Saint John down through dipper harbour to Saint George.

Unfortunately the NB government is going with chip seal all over the place now. Mind you it can make the roads exciting even at the speed limit..

Cheers

My only current riding buddy is on the Island so we have been compromising by doing all of our biking in NS and not either of our own provinces. Beautiful riding over there. Never been to Peggy's Cove, have to put that on my list.

Saint John to Saint Goerge sounds like a nice ride too ! I've always liked Route 7 ( ? ) Between SJ and Fredericton. And Fredericton the old way via the Gagetown ferry, there's a nice little pub there somewhere along the water, Red Boot maybe ? Anyway, they had cold beer haha.

My first double quoter, hope it works.

I've ridden a lot of those routes but me being in Woodstock now I hop across to Maine they use asphalt and most of their roads are way better paved than anything in our provinces. There are some great 3-4 hour rides with real twisties, no traffic and few state troopers.

Too true. All the New England states are nice for riding. Anxious to do the White Mountains again. The Kancamangus Pass was really something. The only drawback was my riding buddy was a little reluctant to pass and there are a lot of 2 lane highways. Made for some long days...

Kanc is a great road, there are tons in the white mountains area for sure. I love to take rte 2 from here through maine into NH. We used to have a time share in May there and did a trip at least once a May for years, don't have it anymore but still try to go once a summer if possible.

I've never been down through the states, I'll have to take a trip once its a bit warmer out.

On the less cafe and more adventure side I'd also like to go north up to lab city.. pipe dreams :)

I find passing on the bike is way nicer then in a car, when I want to go fast the bike goes fast..

Cheers

I'm going to Happy Valley Goose Bay next month for work, unfortunately the wrong time of the year for Labrador to go motorcycling, but maybe I'll get a snowmobile rental in.

I haven't done too many long trips on the bike, but one of my favorite runs is right outside Halifax. You drive out to the Rawdon Hills and run towards Enfield, then hit the Waverly road all the way back through Dartmouth to Halifax. It's a pretty cool run, as Rawdon is just nice rolling hills and farm country, which surprised me cause there isn't much of that immediately around Halifax, and then the Waverly road just sweeps and curves alongside a trail of lakes leading into Dartmouth/Halifax.

That is a really nice ride, sometimes I will go across to Dartmouth by myself just to ride the Waverley Road out to Enfield and back. We often hit the Rawdon hills on the way up to Windsor, sometimes cutting across from Lakelands on the old hwy #1 to Rawdon on the #14 along the way. Much like the Waverley Rd route, beautiful scenery with plenty of curves and hills to keep it interesting. Sometimes on the way home we will cut across through Martock on the #12 through Chester and back home via the south shore.

I go through the Rawdon hillls whenever I ride to visit my sister in Kentville, and of course the song by Stan Rogers plays in my head as soon as I see the sign for them.

So...
Anyone else foolish enough to go for a spin in the last few weeks ? I can honestly say I've never been on a bike in February ! It was for test riding purposes on my CJ360. Hanging throttle, time for a carb sync.

Cheers,

Almost...Been on the road in February before and I was waiting for a day when the road dried up a little...anyhoo, when that day came, I looked at the clouds of salt dust being kicked up by the passing traffic and decided to take a rain check.

Got out this morning (29 Feb) for a shakedown cruise on the Golden Flash...bike worked flawlessly, somewhat unusual to have absolutely no issues at all on completion of a project this involved. This is the first time I've been out riding in February in about four, or five years

Apparently the Maritimes, excluding NB got a bunch of snow yesterday ? Not to rub it in, but I went for a cruise on my resurrected CJ360. The season is so close I can taste it !

Cheers,

Only got about three or four inches in the Halifax area...no big deal. Almost completely gone today.

Hey guys,
Heading to Bangor with some friends that play roller derby. My wife played for more than long enough and I am not siting through another silly game. So I'll have a free day in Banger, and suggestions for a day ride ? ?

Cheers,
~T

Hey guys,
This thread should have a little more action !

Anybody here ever buy a bike with no papers ? Bike is in NS, I'm in NB. What's the process ?

Thanks,
~T
