Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

If you find that a certain member named "Rocan" gives you the cold shoulder or tries to tell you to paint your bike flat pink, don't worry, you just stole his thunder.

But seriously, welcome to the site! I've been working on a 72 CB350 for a few years now and theres tons of people on here with a vast amount of experience with these old girls so ask away. $600 can get you a lot depending on how much you need to put into what you "need." First things first, post up some pics and show us what you're working with!

bob.

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

you bastard!

really, flat pink would look great!

find my thread... "cb350 built by a teen"

been at it a year and a half. there was a member younger then us, Jared, but his project seemed to kind of fade (lost interest?)

keep at it... if you need pointers, im here for ya.

oh, and take it from me... listen to EVERYTHING a lot of the people say, and dont talk back like you know what your doing.

where are you located?

as for budget... good luck keeping to it. ive spent over 3 times the cost of my bike on parts and things since i bought it. its a big pit.

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

oh, and for the record...

whats your birthday? im sep 4, so if your born earlier, im still youngest :D

heres my thread...

a LOT to read through, but you can see how much ive learned since i started... also how much more complex she got since the day i tore her down!

now im looking at swapping in a 6 speed... when will the madness end!

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

@Rocan, I think me and you are goin to be buds haha sept 28th sorry i guess im the youngest.

But thanks for your thread! Im still playing with the theory of going two tone black on top white on bottom and gold stripe through the middle of the side of the tank.
im trying to get the camera charged haha sorry.

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

First things first. I need help with wiring. My bikes making 180 (give or take) psi on both cylinders. I figured before i tore anything up thats the best thing to do...?

So i looked it up and thats pretty good compression. BTW thats dry compression. i didnt spray anything before i tested.

Also i need a cheap yet reliable battery , considering i dont have one.
My clutch cables are brittle and look like rubish. so i want to replace those with some newer style black ones (hate the ugly coffee color of mine)

My theory on the bike not starting is: something wrong with wiring.
Checked the points: both set at .014 is that good or should they be at .012?

Cameras almost done charging haha sorry!

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

welp, indeed first things first, you need a battery to check the wiring. Any lights turn on? look inside the carbs yet? key in the ignition? It's "suck-bang-blow" on these old 4 strokes... suck= carbs/intake, bang= plugs/wiring/ignition, blow= exhaust. Simple as that!

bob.

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

your cylinders are in great shape man... dont tear into there as 180psi is more then enough.

start with a carb rebuild kit, and check that you have spark.

also you need a battery in there for it to start! :D

trust me on this... fix the bike as to Stock specs, then start modifying. replace cables, etc etc. heres a good link to help you...

http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/MC.html

and heres the shop manual, which i uploaded.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/vd7d8z1e1nof8z0/cb250_cb350_shopmanual.pdf

and heres some damn good reading which will help get your theory down! i bought a copy, well worth the money...

and of course, some yoshimura cb350 porn (which no one has a copy of but me, apparently!)

http://www.mediafire.com/file/2nyiolvuq3409c2/Yoshimura%20CB350.pdf

so remember... get her running stock first, then start modding. i have some spares if you need them... just stuff that never got sold that may be helpful to you.

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

I could be wrong, but isn't 180 psi too high?

Either way, better high than low. Welcome to the site man.

Us lazy people don't want to go trawling through photobucket albums ;)

Feedback? Love it. That just happens to be my all-time favourite Honda scheme.

As for the motor, like the others have said, that's a good compression reading, so that's a positive. Get yourself a battery (have you already?). Check that you have a nice blue spark at the points. Take the cover off and crank it a bit. The gap seems close enough to start her up at least. If that checks out, pull a plug and ground it on the motor so you can see the electrode, then crank it again to see if the spark is reaching the plugs. If it is, and the timing is correct, you probably need to look into the fuel system. Work backwards until you find out where the fuel stops. Does the petcock work? Do the carb bowls fill?

See how you go, and report back.

...and have fun ;)

cheers
ian

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

If it helps, I built this bike for $1200 total. The base bike was in good condition and I sold 90% of the crap off it to regain a lot of spend. About $200 of the build was spent on tires alone, so you could probably save some money there. The trick is to do all the work yourself and never compromise the build quality.

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

awesome dude, if you even need anything feel free to ask!

and chris, that bike is one of my favorites man, such great work!

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

hah... first one done!? not fair... i have to figure out my 360 swap! but if i do put it together with my cb350 tranny, i could have it done in a month or so.

meh, im in no race. :D

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

Is that a fiberglass seat, or did you carve it outta foam? I cant tell from the pic. I like the shape, similar to what i'm going to do.

Joe

Re: A Kid's CB350: First Retro Motorcycle Ever

I carved the seat outta foam but i have no clue at ALL how to do a seat out of fiberglass. im gonna throw that one out though. Im gonna go for a more "flowing" look
.. Im currently in photoshop tinkering
