BMW R90/6.. un-farkle to re-farkle

I do miss having a huge, stupid looking fairing or windshield some days. Makes riding a long way much more comfortable and makes rain and cool weather much easier to deal with.

I did another oil change, even though I had done one when I got it, but I figured now is as good a time as any so that I can pile on the miles this summer. I had neglected to do a transmission oil change though "I know, tisk tisk.... I opened up the drain plug to a very un welcomed sight, milky white oil. It's good to have a network of motorcycle minded friends though, and a few beemer gurus at that. It didn't really make sense to me how moisture would enter the system, until kanticoy pointed out that the tach cable boot was known to fail, allowing water to run straight down the cable and into the trans. That's exactly what the issue was I believe, especially considering I don't know how long it's been since the last trans oil change, and it rode home 10+ hours in the back of a truck from barber in a hurricane. He also pointed me in the direction of an "improved boot" that is available, so one is on order.

The driveshaft and final drive also got a fresh helping of oil, so she should be good to go.

Point me to that improved boot! I've got a new tach cable on my bike but can't remember if the boot comes with it or not. I replaced my cables 10 years ago when I got the thing.

I need to order up all fresh cables at some point as well.

I don't think the fairing looks ugly clear. I actually think it is the best looking large fairing I have seen. But then I am not a fan of big fairings.

Milky oil is never fun to find. What an odd place for water to get in.

I pulled the old airhead outta winter storage the other day. Gave her a bit of fresh boom juice and a jump start and off she went. I also added this bar mount eBay special fairing. It gets bonus points for not flying off while going down the road like the last one.

Here's to turning the odometer back over to zero this summer. She's sporting 91,000 miles as she sits.

This old girl hasn't gotten enough changes to warrant a post here, but I do have to give her a shout out for being such a steadfast daily scoot. She's dirty way more often than clean, and just always keeps going. I know 150 miles is far from alot, but I have or have had a good few vintage bikes that I wouldn't jump on and ride that far without really wondering if it's going to make it back.

Pretty excited about this last piece of kit that rolled in today. I've been chatting back and forth with our grand potentate @Tim about the breaking woes that oft accompany the /6 model BMW's (he jockeys a similar vintage R75/6)

Through the magic of Facebook, we found a guy who makes rotor and caliper adapters which allow you to fit 330mm Ducati 1098 rotors and are designed to work with European 100mm bolt pattern 4 pot Brembo calipers , such as those from 09-17 BMW S1000RR's.

These are what came in the box. They are a very pretty chunk of CNC whittled aloy.

Here is a stock photo of the setup on a bike.

As funds allow, I'll be sourcing the rotor and caliper, stainless brake line and I'll be mounting a handlebar mounted master cylinder off of a later bmw to replace the archaic under tank cable actuated master. All those combined should make for a much safer daily commuter and touring bike.

Nice! You can have the Kawi MC I've got if you want to try it.
Much thanks, but das Germans made it so that the throttle and master are all one piece. I'll use a later one that bolts in place.

Nice bit of Kit there Levi. Should make her stop much better.
Better than the period correct cycle world 60 to 0 distance of "eventually" I'd hope lol
