I grabbed a new pair of Chippewa engineer boots (model 27899). They're steel toe and marketed as bike boots.
I've been riding with them for a week now but the left toe is started to split. When I shift gears, the shifter makes contact with my foots just below the steel toe. The downward pressure and the edge of the steel toe seems to causing the split.
Has anyone else had this happen to their boots?
Does anyone actually use the tips of their toes to shift?
WTF??
I have the rubber on the shift. It's just these boots. Chippewa said to send them back to the store for an exchange/refund...but it's an online store and the post office is on strike. Ughhghghghggghh.
Thanks for the sanity check. At least I know that I'm not just riding like a moron.
I've had the same pair of Get'aGrip boots for ten years and never had a problem. They have extra leather on the toe and bolt on soles for easy replacement. Best boots I ever bought.
I talked with Chippewa. They said to bring the boots to a local shop that sells their boots (Boot Master on Yonge). They'll work with the store to get me a new pair....even though I didn't even buy the boots there. So far it sounds good. We'll see how it all works out.
