bought! now a project!

Re: should i buy this bike?

@scruffy, do you think bent bike will take orders over the phone and ship it over?

also anybody have suggestions on what i should do next? compression test, or set ignition timing?

Re: should i buy this bike?

Start with a compression test. If its low (sub 130)...then squirt some oil in the cylinder...let sit for a few...and check again. If it comes up...proceed to checking spark.

Neither take very long...but if compression is really low...the bike wont run...so having spark wouldnt matter.

Both of those things.

Check compression. No point in working on a bike that won't ever run.

If that's good...

Set timing, set (replace?) points, GO OVER THE WIRING HARNESS and looks for shoddy fixes and damage. Change the oil. New plugs. Lube all cables. Adjust valves.

Re: should i buy this bike?

Oh, and make sure the cam chain is properly adjusted. This is very important with these bikes.

Re: should i buy this bike?

So its okay to do a compression test without the bike warm since I can't start it?

So open throttle and kick start to do a compression test?

What is the range I'm lookingto get for te compression test for a cold motor?

Re: should i buy this bike?

Pretty sure on a CB350 you want to see at least 160-170.
Throttle open, kick the motor over a few times.

should i buy this bike?

With it cold 130+ would be an acceptable reading.

Re: should i buy this bike?

Seriously man... Download the manual. It walks you through ALL of this in simple and easy to follow steps.

This more than what I said

Re: should i buy this bike?

the points look almost brand new!
But I need to adjust them.

I went ahead and did a compression test!

My left cylinder has around 160 psi
But my right one has none.....
What whyyyyy! How could this be lol

What does this even mean?

Re: should i buy this bike?

Could be a stuck valve or bad piston rings.

Did you check the valve clearances before you checked compression?

Re: should i buy this bike?

turns out the compression tester took a Shit on me! I just bought it like 30 minutes ago! It wont hold air

Re: should i buy this bike?

@teddpage the compressor tester hose was leaking. Lol

I returned it and just got a new one.

Good news is I tested them with the electric stater and got both 145-150 psi range so that is good news!

For the valves and setting points I will continue next week. Have a genetics mid term tmr.

Till next time!
