The prevous tank was in the same Light Ivory that I've used for the dummy tank and the powder coating colour for the wheels and hubs.
I'll put it in primer before I make a final decision !

Thanx Brodie - maybe here for the belt ? I might use it as a dummy and use some fixings at the bottom of the tank to the engine plate.

At last - I contacted the guy that does my machine work. He's only just come back to working full time.
I asked him about making the exhaust flanges for me - no problem.
Then I asked him if he knew anyone who could weld my frame ................. "I'll do it", came the reply.
I'm going down to his workshop next week to sort it all out, then it's dismantle the bike and hopefully end up with fully welded frame.

That is a great stroke of luck. It will be great to see it all start to come together
I dropped the alloy billet off today for the exhaust flanges to be machined.
I showed my machine shop guy the pix of my frame and he has no problems for welding it for me.
Frame stripped down now, just got to remove the odds and ends and I can take it down to him. I'm leaving the engine in as it is a semi-stressed member and will act as a jig while he's welding - good job it's not the 1000cc Virago I was going to use at one time !
I can really see my schedule getting back on track now.
While the frame's away I'll strip the wheels down [ bearings out ] and get them off for powder coating - together with the handlebars.

Fuel cell is finished now.
I had to cut off the alumimium boss off the brakeplate [ cable stop mount ] as it fouled on the frame axle plate.
All linished off, primered and finished in light Ivory to match the wheels - which should be back from powder coating next week.

Not sure where it's going yet, but just wanted to see what it might look like !
The Dimple Die project didn't work on the front headstock closer panels ..... metal too thick causing loads of distortion .......... back to the drawing board. They're only cosmetic, and my pal decided to put additional holes in which expose the inner braces etc. The new ones will only have 3 holes and probably be 1mm steel or 1.5mm alloy. The alloy ones would be glued in place.

Well pleased with the fuel cell, went from a "whatif" to a "that's it". More important it solved a lot of packaging problems and saved a whole bunch of money. Bonus - embossed on the side "petroleum spirit - highly inflammable".
My machine shop guy is back from his holiday on Monday 3rd. and first off will make the exhaust collars, then I can get the frame up to his workshop for full welding.

Collected the machined exhaust collars today - spot on. Exactly as they were in my mind !! See the knurled finish.
I also saw some items he was welding for a customer - super neat, the way he was talking I thought it ws just going to be "adequate". Frame going up to his workshop in the next two weeks and he will do the frame while I wait !!!

Yes, well pleased with the results. I did a sketch, we talked it through and then left him to it. Originally I was going to get some flanges laser cut, but prices are now going through the roof. Then I remembered an old Rudge engine I had in the late 50's which had an exhaust retainer ring similar to the one I sketched out. Different, and I hope another talking point on the completed machine.
I also found a company that can make an OEM style chassis plate - just waiting for a quote.
Finally got the headers mocked up in the new collars. Front is dead simple, a 90 degree stainless bend off the shelf cut to length.
The rear is doable now - clearing the fuel cell. I can't finalise the layout until the footrests etc are in place.
