Cafe Invasion - 2011 Leesburg FL Bikefest

Not sure if this is the right forum or not but what I’m thinking is trying to put together a Café Invasion during 2011 Leesburg Bikefest. Either putting together a Café Ride or a Rockers v Mod event.

The reason I’d like to do this is that I’ve attended Bikefest for the past 9 years… most on my HD. I’ve since got rid of the HD and in the summer of 09 I picked up a Triumph Thruxton. Since then I make last Bikefest, numerous “Bike Nights” at different places, and rides with various Groups. Pretty much I’ve always been “odd man out” on the Thruxton… though at every event I get all kinds of comments on the bike.

What I think would be Kewl would be for either a Group Café Ride or a Mod v Rocker event during Bikefest. I’m thinking of meeting up early one day, cruising down to Main St and parking. Doing Bikefest then heading over to a local place for eats & suds.

If we can organize a Mod v Rocker event that would be kewl but I don’t know how to link up with those Mod people. I’ve got a local place that does Bike Nights and would probably be receptive to being THE meet place for this (that is if you want the best Buffalo Wings outside of Buffalo NY)

Any thoughts, Ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If we can pull this off this could turn into a yearly thing.

very interested in the outcome of this... but too busy to be involved in the planning. Sorry.. but count me in to be there.

Already have a place in mind. Was trying to get an idea people that would be interested is attending. Not sure how many Cafe people are in Central FL/attending Bikefest.

Probably not many. If you put together something interesting, it may give people a reason to attend.

I think you might be getting your rear wheel ahead of the front, if you will. You'd probably be best to try to get together a group of local cafe riders first, then organize / host an event. Once you strengthen the base, more folks might like to show...

Lots of ways to go about this - here, or course, or posting an ad on craigslist, getting up with a local cafe builder, etc....

BigAl - That is why I'm trying to set something up during Leesburg Bikefest. That, in and of itself, is a great event. It is, of course, mostly a HD gathering... but over the last few years have been seeing more and more Sprots bikes/Custom Street Fighters attend. I though it would be great if a load of ROCKERS showed up. ;D

Cafebird - Don't know of any local cafe riders as I've only had my Thrux 1.5 years. I ride mostly with Orlando RAT (Riders Associated with Triumph) but for the most part they ride their Sports Bikes. There is a couple with Classics but only one other Cafe besides me. And I've seen maybe 5 other Cafes on the road during that time. Great Idea on getting up with local builders. They may be receptive and help put out the word. Thanks.

LOL - we had a cafe group going within a few weeks of me getting to Raleigh :D All it takes is the right motivation, but I'd been talking to a few very motivated fellas on-line here even before I hit town. This forum is a great resource for getting folks together. Of course, you may not be very far away from the Dime City Boys over in Largo. Maybe you could pay them a vist some time, they are a cool bunch. I get down to Bradenton every couple of months, and know there are a few folks on cafe's in your general area... we are just a thin group. You could put out the word on a monthly meeting place maybe - who knows what would turn up?

Yeah, the Orlando RATs are one of the most active packs still alive. I was a pack leader for several years. It is a tough job, because you have cruisers, sport bikes, touring bikes, adventure bikes, and now there is a faction of folks on "vintage" Hinckleys, and a few Coventry riders that show up even. As a group, it is tough to keep everyone happy - lots of different riding styles and preferences to contend with. The last pack I worked with, we had mostly sport riders and cruisers, and we often broke the groups out into seperate rides. Maybe you could volunteer to lead some vintage/cafe rides?

Anyway, you might find me down that way, depending on what the work schedule throws at me!

We had a "Retro Ride" a few week ago. Everyone on Modern Classic's with the wife of one of the riders on her Ducatti . It was great... especially the sound! ;D

Was going to drop Dime City an e-mail after Christmas. Hopefully, they will be into it and be able to lend a hand getting the word out. We'll see.

I may have to get a shift on and use some of the stuff I have laying around to be ready
I was going to make or modify just about everything on the bike.
It's only about 80 miles away

hey, let us know if this goes down! Myself and a few of the boys might be down to hit it

April 7th-10th. i'm definately in. ;D

anyone want to go to Daytona in march? i was thinking about it, but only if it gets warmer. this 34 degree crap has to go.

Hey Gy, I think you have a great idea, and I will definitely try to help and support. I noticed that you joined Cafe-moto today! Sweet man thanks! I look forward to meeting you and riding together. Also I just wanted to say that we will be meeting on the 1st saturday of every month so I am sure by April we will have grown a bit and we can do some recruiting for your ride during our April meet considering the Leesburg event is the very next weekend! 8) ;D

Hey shortround, if you local check us out.

Sounds good. Unfortunitly I work on Saturdays so if Cafe-moto meets then I'll never make it. :( I'm off Sundays. Plan on setting something up for Leesburg and take a day off to make it happen/attend. I'll post another idea on Cafe-moto but it will be for a Sunday Morning ride with Brunch.

Agh, sorry to hear that you work every Saturday. I am definitely down to do a ride on Sunday if I can. Typically, I ride mid days on Sunday like around 1-4. So I am sure we could figure something out. I will defintely try and do something for Leesburg. Where in Orlando do you normally ride?

Don't try to normally ride Orlando... hate the city, Live in Lake County and try to stay in that area. Hook up with a Sports Riders club every now and then that ride North, North East/West of Orlando.

Check out Orlando RAT on Facebook.
