Cafe seems to morph into fighter

Custom Ctluba cooler bracket. Just "roughed out" right now. Edges will be striaghtened up and smoothed and painted after welding. The small "v" on the end on the straight piece will be welded to the steering head just above the steering stop.

Can someone look at thier 1100 or 900 and tell me if these fittings are supposed to be pointing outboard, like this, or switched around and pointing inboard :?: :? :?:

Don't stock hoses come up between the center pipes as a pair ie close together, so that would mean swapping the fittings around.
 
I woulda used a brass wire brush on My dremel tool to clean that old gasket off.... works like a charm....
 
Yup! As long as you use a brass wheel and nothing more abrasive(don't ask how i know this...) you can rip right thru old dead gaskets like a charm.

Thanx smity, but I already got the info on the CB forum. They go as pictured, to be able to clear the oil filter. ;D
 
I was a little concerned that the small length of steel I was going to use to mount the cooler to the steering head may not have enough strength during riding, vibration and hitting bumps etc. I knew I would use that stock brake stay someday!!! Much more meat to it. Plus being a pipe it supports itself much better than a flat piece of steel stock.

I rocked the front end back and forth to full steering lock, since the set up is welded to the frame there were no problems with the cooler or the lines. I was originally planning to have the lines run to the top of the cooler, but the headlight would hit them, so I ran the lines to the bottom of the cooler. I held my breath, hit the strat button, and she fired right up. After a few tense moments the oil light went off!!!!!!!!!!!!! Runs great, I am so stoked that I pulled this off. Well, I should wait until I can take a shake out spin, but so far so good!!! :D 8) ;D

Ya, Ya, I need a front tire!!! ::)

What do you mean??? This is a CB1100F oil pump set up. I used all the stock parts except for the cooler. As far as how the pump functions and handles oil flow, output and input etc, I let the Honda engineers worry about that.

Hey Rat, what exactly are you lookin for?? The lines are attached to the stock fittings on the oil pan. They run along the frame tubes, up over the triple and down to the cooler fittings. I put a few zip ties along the frame rails to keep the lines centered and away from the header. I also used the stock 1100F line guards which are like big springs that the hoses run through.
 
The oil lines do not attach to the pump. The dual chamber pump is located on the side of the motor near the front sprocket.

The 1100 pump has two chambers. One pumps oil through the motor, the other pumps oil through the cooler.
 
If the bike has an oil cooler, it has a dual pump. I think all the 900s had coolers stock. Well, I know the 900F had a cooler, not sure about the C.
 
Looks pretty spiff mate but you're gonna want a 2nd mount or at least a brace at the bottom of your cooler. You're only stopping movement along one axis at this point and the bottom of that WILL oscillate back and forth until it fractures the strip mount on top.
 
This is the first mock up of the mount. I can tell you one thing, the mount itself is SOLID!! After my buddy welded it I held it like a handle and picked up the front of the bike just to test its strenght, didnt budge.

If you are talking about the cooler itself flexing, I did not consider that. The thing is very rigid and compact. I dont think it will move at all. The "casing box" or "frame" of the cooler is strong. I will take a look at it again though and maybe tac in a small brace from the bottom edge just prevent any flexing, definately wouldnt hurt anything. ;D
