Cafe XV920R Mega-Build

Finally!! I have a completed and running bike. I still need to take care on some details like buffing the paint and really cleaning the bike up some more. The bike runs pretty well considering I took a wild guess at the jetting, need to spend a little time dialing it in. The exhaust note sounds great closer to a Ducati than a Japanese cruiser. Took a couple pics with my phone ,but will get it out and take better ones with a decent camera.

Nice man, looks like a modern high attack street fighter! I like how you tied the swingarm, shock to the subframe to the frame, very cool. Maybe check for cracks in that subframe from time to time just to be safe as your swing arm, frame and shock won't break, leaving all the stress on the aluminum sub frame. How's the handling and cornering?

Ya you did lose the vintage twin sound a bit. I lost a little too with a modern muffler on my tracker (Cafe is fine tho) but when the tracker had the the 2x slim bullets it was tooooo loud cause they had no more packing.

The bike handles and rides more like a modern bike with the new frame geometry and the modern suspension wheels, tires and brakes. I have pushed it a little bit and it feels really stable. I have kept an eye on frame although I over engineered it. The CNC parts add a lot of strength to the overall package they are secured to the engine, lower frame, subframe, as well as the outer swingarm pivot mounts. I was surprised at the performance with the stock internals of the engine , not modern sport bike fast, but plenty quick for a street bike. I had considered getting pistons from you and putting cams in but I was already over my budget.
Buy the way do you still sell that stuff?? for future reference.

Ya it's a bit of price jump going 1002cc, 11:1, cams, head work, titanium valve springs, New ignition.

Your bike is looking pretty light so power to weight is a big deal. Your getting huge gains in hp tq and throttle response and another 1000 rpm. In the end, more fun factor. On my tracker I always wanted more rpm.

It would only be worth it if it was for you if that makes sense. I am comfortable that my investment is sellable beyond my expenses minus my sweat equity.

You could go affordable and just do cams, springs and ignition. Only takes an hour to install the cams. Problem with the 920 is the low compression and the 750 heads trick is a nice bump but the 920 has the biggest valves of any vintage Yamaha so seems a waste not to keep the head and increase the compression piston wise.

Really, really cool bike! I agree that the power is pretty adequate with the weight pared down. I am currently building an engine with Vstar 1100 crank, rods, pistons (stock CR) and cylinders. I started collecting the parts even before the bike was on the road. I figured I would keep the boost turned down (~7 psi, or 150 kpa) until I had the better (Vstar) head gasket design in place of the suspect 920 design. Then I'd turn up the boost more. Now, several months of riding later, I really think 7 psi is plenty for the riding I do. But, I have the 1100 mill assembly in progress, so will swap it in over the winter.
