My dip stick on both my 360 and 350 say 2 quarts 10-40. but at a quart and a half the stick reads full. So I always only added that much. I even tested it while running wondering if it made a difference in the reading... It does, it's un-readable. I don't want to cause any undu damage. Should I go a head and add the full 2 quarts?
You are checking with the engine as level as possible right? ON center stand is best, if you have it on side stand and fill it up it will be about a quart OVER.
Oil level should be checked with the engine OFF as well.
If you just dump the oil out of the plug and then refill it will be a bit less than 2 quarts, mine always has. IF I pull the clutch cover to clean the filter it will be a bit closer. IF you dump out as much as you can while that cover is off then it will take 2 quarts.
Its my understanding that you should fill according to the dipstick level. If you drain the oil, you're not getting all of it out of the bike. So filling it with the suggested volume of oil could potentially overfill the bike (and have your dipstick reading far overfilled). I could be wrong, but that makes sense to me.
