CB125S "Susie" Take Two

My float height is set at either 22 or 24 mm, I can't remember off the top of my head. I kept it at whatever the standard Mikuni setting is.

Has anyone considered either A) cutting the venturi portion off of the stock intake and adding a filter to it, or B) utilizing a velocity stack/filter combo? In the end both would be essentially the same thing, but I think using a velocity stack might decrease the risk of the stock rubber venturi collapsing.

Just a little something I've been chewing on as I sit staring at my currently-not-running CB100

Me too.....both chewing and...non runner..............!!

I know some folks on here have been using the venturis off of CB750s on 175s as velocity stacks. I know Zeke did it with victoria, and I feel like I saw some others doing it too. So, I feel like if the one in the stock box fits the carb it should work.

Hm, might have to take one of the intakes off my CB750 and see if it fits. May be worth seeing if a CB750 VS/filter setup would fit...

Anyone have experience with Red Wing Assault shocks? Looking for replacements that aren't knockoffs that won't break the bank. $200 for Hagons on this bike doesn't quite feel right. I'd rebuild the stock shocks but I'd like to raise the back a little to help correct the increased rake.
Looking at these:

I'd say that by virtue of them being sold as rebuildable makes them a viable option, because if the seals are made of cheese you should be able to find decent matching ones and if they have been filled with munky piss you can mess about with oil vicosity.
It seems that even the cheapest shocks go boing very well, but its the damping that is important.
The ones in the photo I posted are 350mm TL125 YSS units. They were very good on the road as a solo bike, but were not stiff enough with the sidecar so I soon replaced them.

Anyone know if the footpegs from the earlier cb125 fits the later model? Mounting looks the same, but the older models have both pegs molded in, where the later one has the brake side removable.

Made some paint masterpieces of the two ideas I have as far as where I wanna go now. Leaning towards the second a bit more. Thoughts? Either way I'll be putting taller bars on.

I like that 2nd one too.

Man this build has gotten me motivated to get something done to me little cb100. Turned the cylinder in to get bored and honed, finally.

Keep up the good work. Why do you want higher bars? Just curious.

I decided to go with higher bars cuz drag bars with the standard controls just feels too cramped and awkward for me, I'm 5'11" and 250 for some perspective. (Trying to lose some #s though ;D) Nothing too high, probably some superbike bars or something.
I haven't done too much, I'm still out of it from getting my wisdom teeth out. Hopefully I'll be doing some real work next weekend, since Christmas is gonna get in the way this week ;)

Mom said she didn't like the way the tail and side panel are so close, so I drew up a modified version of it. I like this a bit more too.
She also said it looks too much like its trying to be a dirt bike, so I guess I got the tracker lines right ;)

Got a god bit of work done yesterday. New bars are on and clutch cable is adjusted. Decided on superbike bars. I like the look and feel, pretty happy with the choice. I picked up a seat cowl from a kawasaki H1 that I started cutting up to use for my cowl. It has to have about 2 3/4" taken out of the middle to fit the little 125 frame ;). Brake cable and pedal are in the mail. I have a sheet of metal to do the seat pan, just trying to figure out how I want to mount everything. Next week I'll be back to working on it, once Christmas and such is done.
In the meantime, Merry Christmas everyone! ;D

The welding on the cowl is done, took a little bit to remember welding, haven't done it in almost a year now. I put in a backing plate and a strip on the top, since the cut from the angle grinder wasn't straight so there were some gaps and the metal was pretty thin and wanted to blow out. It fits perfectly and seems to be proportioned very well. I'll be tucking a tail light in there, tire clearance permitting. Now just need to get a seat pan done by the end of the week since I'm going back to school early saturday.

30 Day warning... oops! Heading home in a couple weeks for break so I'll get a couple days to spend with Susie. I have a CB350 stator on the way to do the 12V conversion, and I designed my harness. Just need to actually build it when I get home. ::)
Next big item is to finish up the seat, basically I need to finish the cowl up, connect it to a base, and make the pan. From there, its foam and fabric, hopefully my mom can help with the sewing part, she makes dresses and stuff so I'd say she's competent with a sewing machine. Will post pics of work in a couple weeks, for now here's a shot of my harness design. In a perfect world I'd be able to just use hand signals and cut the blinkers out, but they're required in WA.

Back to planning again.. Finals are almost over so I'll be home in a couple weeks and get to start working on Susie again. Trying to decide on a few things to consider ordering before I get home, and was hoping for a bit of feedback.

1. Carburetor: I have a VM20 on her now, but have heard that the 26 is better for these motors, and also re-read this thread and saw someone post about running a 22. I remember back when I was putting my jets from 6sigma in the main jet I was using didn't want to screw in to the needle jet/holder and I busted the thread. This was before I knew there were metric/standard screws, and different pitches ::). I think they sent me jets for the OE Keihin. Anyways, I figure I need to pull the carb to check if the needle jet is ok or toast (I remember it being fine...), and if the main jet I want to run is secure.
2. Shocks: Still thinking about getting a set of SL shocks, but depending on how much I make this summer I might get a set of Hagons.
3. Wiring: I have the 350 stator, just need to order my connectors and go to town on building the sucker.
4. Need to integrate fender to the heat hump, and decide if I want to try to make it more tracker or something like a mini-superbike. IIRC the cowl I made is cool but not very "tracker."
5. I'm thinking about doing a port/polish on the intake and exhaust after I get it running well. I've heard that the issue on most of these old Hondas is the stock intake/exhaust port size.
6. Exhaust: The pipe I have right now is off a 100, which I thought would be fine. I might end up making a new pipe out of something slightly bigger and go low pipe instead of high pipe.

Anyways, I'll post some pics when I get home and start working on her again!
