CB175 Cafe, First Build

Re: CB175 Racer Build

Pulled the rear tire to fix the brake squeaking and have the new tire thrown on.

Clutch cable was binding more than ever so I pulled it and lubed it up. Huge improvement! I don't know why I didn't take care of it sooner.

Off to ride!

Looking good. I love these little bikes.
Thanks, cortez.

Quick trip to Menards got me a cheap angle grinder and a few cut off wheels. Not bad for $23

Got to work on anything protruding from the frame; helmet loops, hinges, seat lock, etc. The fiberglass seat will need to be cut at the shock towers and tank in order to sit flat. I pulled the rear fender and brake light assembly. I'm still undecided on the license plate mounting location once the new seat is mounted.

Mud guard aka scrapper bait hanging out on top of the recycling bin. It lasted exactly 5 minutes.

Re: CB175 Cafe Racer Build

you know what man im working on a bike right now but dont have a build log last night... ima have to start one tho expecally now that i got a few things to fix, i dumped my bike last night :/

Re: CB175 Cafe Racer Build

That's a nice clean bike and I like the CL side pipes.

Just a word to the wise. You need that rear fender to keep crap and water out of the carbs and off the motor. Call Brett at Glass From the Past and see if he has one that will work for your bike.

What is the distance between the seat surface and the pegs - vertically? 160's and 175s are so small that the seat usually has to be raised slightly to avoid having your knees bent too far and cutting off circulation. Make up a simple subframe from square section aluminum and bolt that to the fame and the seat to that subframe for a little more leg room.

Sorry to hear that. Looking forward to seeing your build.

Thanks teazer. I've seen one in the GFTP albums.

The distance from pegs to seat is about 16". I'm 5'8" and find it to be pretty comfortable so far.... The stock seat height was killing my elbows and shoulders.

Re: CB175 Cafe Racer Build

16" is at the small end of workable. At least it's more than on our old RS125. That was around 13" and that was a PIA to wrap a rider around especially if that was me.

There has to be a neat way to mount that plate under the seat and avoid the chopper vertical plate look.

"Plate tray" will be in place until winter tear down and repaint. I'll weld up a permanent bracket then.

I hear what you're saying; I'll post up some riding position pics when I get a chance.

I'm starting to like the idea of scrapping the vertical plate and mounting under the cowl like you said. Probably something I'll look at once I get a permanent tail light installed.

Re: CB175 Cafe Racer Build

I dig that tail light man.

If you choose to run the turn signlas, you can pick up a LED flasher relay and eliminate the load equalizer.
