Danke sehr ;)!
I see we only live about 200 km apart, so here on DTT, i think you are one of my closest neighbours as most of you guys are 6000 km away from here ;D.
But yes, dutch people make fun of germans a lot...a history thing, sorry ;)

Hehe yes everyone makes fun of us because of history XD
But I am too young for that, so i guess we will be cool ;)
And I'm not saying something about soccer or caravans^^

Btw: Can you tell me what handlebar you got there ? It looks really cool and comfortable.

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

Sven, as far as i know they are the original handlebars that came with the bike. At least, they were on it when i bought it. I gave them a new powdercoat which makes them look totally different.

Wanted to update some more but haven't had the time...Spending two whole days now making a battery casing, and i find it very hard to do... everything is crooked and some parts are too short or too long ???
Alsmost every part of it has been made twice now, but i'm finally starting to get the hang of it. I expect it will be finished tomorrow and it wil be pretty pretty pretty when it is done ;)

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

really cool thread. did you have to modify the forks/frame to put on those wider rims?

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

Ah okay, thanks for the reply Jene !

I think I will then just buy those, the LSL Flat Track Handlebar:

They seem pretty cool too^^

No, they just fitted, very snug, but it works great :)

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

Just typed a long and detailed story when my computer crashed :') So here is a less detailed one ;)

Let's start with the biggest progress! THE ENGINE IS RUNNING! All the credits go to Bert, who spend 3 days in a pile of wires, grease and battery's to make it work :) The mailman brought in a nice package with the missing links to make everything run, and then some. CMS even got me this cool keychain haha 8)

It seems everything works, the coil died in the battle, so i have to find a replacement for that old bastard.
The oil canal Bert rerouted works like a charm to, so it seems. Since i don't have a battery yet and the kickstarter died as well, we use the old drill-method to fire it up for now.

The rear shocks i got for my birthday didn't fit, so i got to trade them for these lovely yss-springs, which look great on my bike!

Today we installed the pipes, love them even better now they are on the bike instead of laying around being pretty. After a short puzzle they almost fitted like a charm.

Gotta love recycling! This quick detail actually is made out of the paper-shredder-basket we found somewhere in a corner.

Schermafbeelding2012-08-26om211241.png

Handlebars are almost ready...White is not so white anymore after spending too much time in the workshop ;)

Schermafbeelding2012-08-26om211415.png

In my previous post i told you about the batterycase i was working on. No need for that anymore, since i dropped the battery. Obviously, it died as well. ::) Now i have to buy myself a new supersmall supernice battery as well...

And we entered the stage where we don't do 'quick mockups' anymore, this is the real thing, a preview of how it is gonna BE!

I'm very excited and happy about the results so far. Still some work to do and parts to buy, and the buying part is mainly the problem now ;) Gotta have some patience i'm afraid....

Thanks for all the comments, really keeps me motivated to continue! :D

Bye! Jene

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

Just caught up with this thread this afternoon. Very cool looking bike! Have you thought about running a lower set of bars and lowering the headlight/gauges? It looks nice as-is but those changes would give it that sleek and mean modern tracker look ;D

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

Hey Barnburner,

yes, i have thought about different front-options,handlebars etc, but in reality this bike is really small, even though the pics don't always show it. In my opinion it needs something bigger in the front end or something. I'm scared that lowering the handlebars will make my bike 'disappear' even more, even though it would look more bulky...So I guess i keep it this way for now :)

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

looking great. are these the original bars with the wiring & throttle inside the bar? if so how did you adress that? new controls?

any plans for tail light / blinkers?

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

Good work! I like this thing alot! Kinda wish I'd bought the cb200 my neighbor was selling now! I like it!!

rad

Looks soo rad!

Just the style of bike I ride, and love.

Very detailed and awesome build. I just read the whole thing straight through.

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

Hey guys! here are some pics to start with :)
Got a load of them cause i really want to show you my new fenders in detail which i made in the last couple of days. :)

Schermafbeelding2012-09-05om015114.png

Bert made a mount for my new coil.

Schermafbeelding2012-09-05om015131.png

Some valve-adjustment....

Schermafbeelding2012-09-05om015141.png

We changed the throttlehandle and the original cable didn't fit anymore. Therefore another invention from Bert to make it work.

Somewhere in the process of building my bike i thought it would be cool to have fenders out of wood, for the summerish beachy touch...We took 3 pieces of thin wood which we glued together. Bert helped me out with a mold of old bicycle rims.

The little pieces of wood are used to apply pressure on a larger area instead of just in the middle.

Schermafbeelding2012-09-05om015246.png

And after a few hours, this was the result, which was a big surprise. We didn't know if if would actually stay in this shape but it worked out fine! :D This is my ''i'm so happy, i just made this part''-face. ;D

And after a lot of sanding and cutting and trying very hard, this is the result for now:

The circles in the front fender create some space for the forklegs. This way, i could keep the fender a little bit wider. I cut them out using a round saw which you can put on any drill. Don't know the english word for this thing :p

Very happy with the result so far, again something on my list of 'firsts'. I hope it will be solid enough, we'll see. It looks quite solid but you never know ofcourse. Planning to use a transparent finish to make the wood-pattern pop out more and to protect it from weatherinfluences, but i'm not really sure which shade i want them to be. Ideas are more than welcome!

That's it for now! Thanks for reading and goodnight :)

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

Wow, that it an awesome idea! I like the look of the natural wood, so maybe you could just give them a coat of polyurethane or two. Did you re-use the fork brace for the front?

Re: CB200 '73 tracker project

I would go with a natural wood finish or a very light stain before varnishing. Looks great. Way to go thinking "outside the box".
