Hi guys,
I'm in the planning phase of the electrics for my bike (74 CB360 soon to be a CB390). About the only thing that I am certain of is that I will be using a smaller than standard battery since I am dropping the side covers and filters. Most likely the EarthX ETX-12A.
I will certainly go with a modern regulator rectifier (either from Sparck or Rick's). Can anyone speak to the differences?
I may also upgrade the stator. I see that Sparck Moto had the tri-spark at one time. Anyone know what happened to that offering? I don't see that on the website at this point, so that kind of leaves me with Rick's for a choice - in which case I'd go for the package deal and use their reg/rectifier too.
I will be running LED everything: head, tail/brake, signals, dash… and I am really thinking about the m-unit and Purpose Built Moto's pushbuttons, but I might go the other end of the spectrum and build a harness around a fuse box - kind of depends on how long I want to wait for finances to match my desire to move forward.
To me the choice between an m-unit and a "just-a-harness" is a decision of desire. I think I can reach the real end goal of the bike either way (although with clunkier controls in one case). On the other hand, having the proper charging system to support the battery is a requirement. So I will spend what I need to there.
Here is what I am looking at, not including any harness work:
Minimum solution - EarthX battery and Sparck's regulator: @ $210
plus 1 solution - above, but with Ricks Stator (and reg): @$400
M.unit Blue + M.button + 5 button controls: if I am going here, it will be full Monty or nothing: add @ $600
So the from "minimum" to "all out" is about $800 or so extra into this project. What do y'all think? Is it worth the $$ and would you recommend anything different?
BTW, my really bad build log is here: https://www.hondatwins.net/threads/74-cb360-brat-ish.130246/#post-1093264
