CB400F restoration

Thats a beautiful bike!
my first honda project was a 400f in the same colour scheme, not as nice as this one though !

My best friend in high school had a '76 — Canary Yellow tank and black side covers. I thought that was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen. I still do.

I found a picture of my proud dad on his brand new bike back in '75.

I'm late getting in on this thread as I don't come here often.
This is such a cool story! I am happy to hear it will remain in the family. That picture of your dad on the bike is priceless, and the 1989 picture is awesome too!
I've had one of my CB400F's for 40 years, and unfortunately have zero pictures of me with it when I first got it.
Your tank turned out really nice, the color looks perfect.

Thanks for sharing.

I built up an extra set of wheels using rims one size wider and with more modern tires. I can switch back and forth depending on whether it's a show day or a riding day.

Nice!
Where did you get the new wheels and spokes from?
What tires did you go with?

I have wider tires on a few of my 400's, and stock size on a couple, too. The bike feels lighter and more nimble with the stock size tires.

The spoke kit came from Yamima and the rims came off Ebay (Malaysian DID rims). Front is 1.85x18 and rear is 2.15x18. They look pretty cool.
The tires are IRC Durotour, 90/90-18 front and 110/80-18 rear. I already had a spare set of hubs which I cleaned and clearcoated with 2-part epoxy, same as my fork bottoms.

The new rims look super.
Your whole bike is spectacular.
New wheels must be in the air.
I just installed new aluminum hoops w SS spokes and tires on mine, this past weekend.
