Hello sage ones!

Scruffy, my cb550 project bike, is getting a set of big bore pistons as part of Phase 3 ‘make it go!’

i’ve read that the cb650 sohc camshaft offers a performance increase, probably at high revs?

is this true and if so what’s involved with the change?
does the cam fit straight in, what about the tacho drive ?

TIA for any advice

It's a direct fit but you have to use 550 sprocket as 650 has a 'Hy-Vo' cam chain
. It's a bigger performance boost using complete 650 head but it looks kinda ugly.
I sold the 650 cam I had several years ago as I would probably never use it and I have a PIPER performance cam I bought around 1980 in my 550.
Because it's a well known mod, 650 cams are either not cheap or real hard to find, good luck

From what year 650? That sounds pretty cool that it’s a direct fit. Any other mods in timing or else where needed to make it work efficiently?
