CB750k frame has been cut?

Hello all! Just started tearing into an 82 CB750K. I didnt notice this until I pulled the engine. It looks like the frame was cut where the engine mounts go? No idea why anyone would do that.

The cut is clean and was even painted over as far as I can tell.

Can this be left as is or can it just be welded back together?

I believe it is made that way to remove the engine. The whole lower section is removable.

That is correct. It’s a removable section to get the engine out. Some guys weld them in permanently but I believe its for race applications.

Dear lord. That would have made getting the engine out so much easier.... I'm still waiting on a new manual to come in the mail. I really appreciate the info!!!

As previously mentioned, you can weld these parts together in order to make a stronger frame, not sure if you would notice the change on the street but many have done this. If done then you have to partially dismantle the engine in order to remove it. Somewhere here there is a better description of this.
