Hey buddy. After you cleaned and sanded your engine, did you primmed it, painted or put any protection? I am referencing to the gray part of the engine, not the black painted one.
I am working on my engine now and everytime I use the wire brush on the block or the head, it seems like there is a a kind of coating that goes off, and what is left does not look like the color of your block.
Also what product did you use to take the grease and dirt out from the very tiny and difficult to reach places? Only degreaser?

Thanks !!

I sanded everything down to etch the metal. Then primer, and paint. I did not use a clearcoat afterwards though. The product I used to degrease was Purple Degrease, and Simple Green (ran out of one and but the other).

Hey man I just wanted to know what pet cocks you used on your tank, and how you moved all your electrical, that was once under the stock seat. I'm building my own '83 virago 750 and I'm going to base my bike off of yours and Greg's.

I used some Moped petcocks for the tank. Purchased them from a scooter company out in San Francisco. I searched by the thread size of the tank petcock bung.

As for electrical, Everything fit into the battery box I used. I simplifed parts of the stock wiriing harness.

Stanley,
Did you end up cutting the Progressive springs in addition to adding your spacers to get your 2" lowering in the front? If so, how much did you cut off springs?

Also, do you recall what aftermarket master cylinder/brake control you went with?

I'm neck deep in my build right now so if you don't mind I may have some follow up questions. Thanks!

Btw, I can't say enough good things about your build. Great job!

I used the Progressive springs and did not have to cut it. They come much shorter than stock so I measured the OEM length, the new spring length, and made a space to fit. The spacer goes on the valving to limit the shock travel, not on top of the spring. You would need to disassemble the whole fork to get it done.

You mentioned that you had the tank badges custom made.....any chance on disclosing the source for those? I have searched the web for 70mm Yamaha badges and haven't been able to find anything that will fit the space on the Benelli. Some of them have the proper graphic, but aren't big enough to fill the space. 8)

What brand/type of paint did you use on the engine, both the black and grey colors? How is that paint holding up now that it's been on for a while? Would you do the same again?

@jlindsay I am looking for the same and found this site from UK http://www.signdezine.co.uk/vinyl_graphics/proddetail.php?prod=STICK-ON-YAMAHA-BLACK-AND-CHROME-DOMED-GEL-DECAL

Stanley,

I went through some of your old posts (both here and on VTF) to find info on your jetting set up and I found two posts that didn't match up.
In one post you stated you had 132 front & 130 rear main jets.
In another post you stated you had "128/130 main jets...".

Can you clarify what you ended up with?
Maybe you could include if you raised the needle and/or drilled the pilot jet as well. Thanks Stanley!
