CG125 OHV Build Oddessy

Re: CG125 house special - One step forward .....

Shamone Muthas.

Front end back off to have the brake plate locating lug extended and 2 sheared mudguard bolts extracted, one way or another! However the man is off with the flu.

I picked up the rearset hangers today :)
I can hear the bigger boys at the back of the class shouting where are the friking lightening holes?
Well, I'm saving favours for the immediate tasks and will revisit at a later date!
Much respect to Stone for posting up his lever dimensions which is the next job.

The project has slowed up a little primarily because here in the UK we are now paying $10 (us) for a gallon of fuel
and I can no longer be willy nilly chasing around the place to get stuff done.

Re: CG125 house special - Random acts of kindness

A massive shout out to Beachcomber for giving me a set of proper job Junior Ace Bars :)
Like many over here in the UK, I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place......
But there is such generosity of spirit abounding that the help I've received with this project just blows me away.
Thanks Mate :)

Re: CG125 house special - Random acts of kindness

so you went with clubmans, they look good, any idea on what shape tank your going to use?

I found some 27mm clip ons which i'll be using for mine, it's good to see how yours progresses so i can see what ideas i can steal ;)

keep up the good work

Re: CG125 house special - Random acts of kindness

I've still got the mudguard and tank here for you mate, Just have had no call to go to Cardiff yet.
I've got several fuel cell options as yet, and have been offered several tanks, including a very nice Garelli one, but none fit.

Re: CG125 house special - Random acts of kindness

lookin good! personally i would file out the SHENDA from the side of the case and then smooth it all out. people wont know what it is when its done!

... not to mention the weight savings, and how much more aerodynamic youll be without those letters dragging you down :)

I have to admit this has crossed my mind as well! Then maybe putting a honda sticker into the recess.;)

Re: CG125 house special - Seat innit

Ta da!

I was dumpster dipping for some tubing to run my rearset mount bolts through and found an old school chair with the correct ID and OD. Result :)
So once I'd finished with the angle grinder I broke out the sawzall ;)

It's a start anyway :D

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

This is taking sooooooooo freakin long to be a roller it is painful. :(

On the up ......

I have the rearsets roughed out now and ready for the search for a M16 tap.

The fork is back from the welder with the brake plate lug extended to accommodate the new fork width.

On the down ......

The attempt to remove one of the sheared M6 mudguard bolt from the fork legs was a disaster. The easy out ended up splitting the outside wall off the mounting lug.

I don't know whether to have it filled with ally weld, drill out the other snapped bolt, then tap them both M8.
OR just to file them off and use a clamp to hold the mudguard.
Your opinions please.

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

cool stuff! Nice rear sets. I hate to say it but I would try to fill and tap, I just dont like the looks of add on clamps. Can you find a differant cheap lower leg, seems that might be easier and cheaper.

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

Sup Glenn.
I can get it filled with weld by the guy who extended the brake lug.
Can't afford to get new lowers.
If I had to I'd rather have gone for a beefier front end all together from the start.
But I've put so much time into getting stronger trees and fitting roller bearings etc I'd rather stick with these lowers.
Personally it wouldn't bother me using clamps, I'm more concered whether removing the lugs would affect the structural strength of the legs.
I intend to get a steel mudguard that is stiffer than the stock, and holding it at the top with clamps as well to act as a fork brace.

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

Bit of a non visual update.
My rearsets are with a mate who has a M16x2 tap for the footrests and is threading the new swinging arm pivot M12.
I've picked up some M12 threaded bar for the other mounting points.
I've cut the header down to a stub and picked up some 25mm steel conduit to bend up a new header, I think I'm going to try running a high level exhaust running along side the cylinder ala CL/trials type.
Picked up a shifter stub for the rear sets but I got the wrong diameter, mines 11mm but the Honda CG is 13mm.
I've fitted the coil to the frame and other than that achieved very little.
So near yet so far. Glitches are the real critters.
??? ??? ???

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

Now that would be the boy for contour following.
Tell me Glenn, does your exhaust have an inner sleeve?

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

I hadn't realised flexible exhaust hose that small! However since the conduit fits in with my budget, i.e. free, I shall have to go with it ;)

I cut back the header stub to reveal the inner pipe today and drove sockets through it until I'd got it round (it was oval)

I've been getting the bike back to rolling status so I can load it up and get it to a workshop.

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

you need to be a bit careful with that stuff, it's going to burn the zinc off and that's not good for you (should be fine if your actually riding it though) Quick run around the forestry should sort things out ;D

Good point PJ, I can swap the conduit for some un galved stuff when I take the bike down next week to use the bending machine.
Sods law says that if I rode a bike up the forestry I would actually get caught and the bike would be crushed! Times have changed here and the 'crossers have succeeded in destroying all the foot paths, bridleways and 4,000 year old drovers routes. :0

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

Damn, it was a 15 quid fine for 'vehicular trespass' last time I was there
Guess it's not a free country any more, the 'serfs' have to know their place ;)

Re: CG125 house special - Speed of a sloth

Rearset plates threaded, levers bored, countersunk and threaded.
Spindle threaded M12 x 1.5 so I need to find some nylocks to suit.
Need to get some M16 nuts cut into half/ thirds ish as full width is too much for stops on the pegs.
Then cut the tubes for the lower mounts and trim the threaded bars to size.
Small progress but progress still :)

Now I need to find something cone shaped for the reverse on the megaphone and make some mounting brackets.
