Cl70 fork rebuild?

BCBarker

Coast to Coast
So I've torn into the little CL70 I picked up a few weeks back. After a coil and Rectifier it runs like a banshee! Front forks felt like a slinky so I started to rebuild them. Only catch is they are impossible to take apart. I'm used to having a bolt at the bottom, but according to the parts Fishe there isn't one. So I removed the C-clip and tried to pry out the seal, but I'm having no luck. I've found some info on the S90s having a collar that screw on to retain the seal, but these don't. Only one other forum I read had info about em, but it was just "give them a spirited tank" to remove. That doesn't seem to work.

Anyone have experience or ideas about this? I have yet to screw up the fork leg and don't want to, but I'm afraid I might if I can't figure this out.

If you look at the end there is a cross head screw in the, you have to take that out.

Mine has that screw and there is no mention of it in the fiche either.

Not even the shop manuals.

And, it's a boogger to get out, I'm still trying to get the second one out.

I have the exact same type forks on my CB100.

When I get home from work, I'll post some pics, cause I have mine torn down as well.

Kewl looking little bike.

thanks, I'll take a third look, but I don't remember there being a screw there.. just a manufacturing hole that looks like they drilled the counter sunk hole, but not the thread hole... but please post pics.

Hmmmmm...no screw huh?

Geeezzz....I don't know then.

Here's a pic of the parts that I took out of my forks.

I figured out how to get the tube out.

You have to just keep pulling hard to seperate the tube from the fork leg by popping the seal out..

That actually worked for one of the forks as shown in the above picture.

The other, I held the tube in my hand and tapped on the bottom fork leg till it popped the seal out, with a rubber mallet of course.

Also, ensure that you've removed the cir-clips on top of the fork seals.

awesome thanks! I'm working on a leverage arm so I can hopefully do it without damaging anything :)

I'll post pics.

A little leverage and some heat and they popped out. Don't know how you do it without a rig like this.

Wow...................kewl set-up.

I guess as long as it worked, is all that matters.

You did have the drain screws removed right?

Ha Ha, I forgot to remove the screw, that's why the second one was harder........I think.

Except for fuel tank and forks it's almost identical to the 1965 S65 I had ~50 years ago. Is it a 4 speed?
