Cm400/450 overdue project

I haven't given up on this build. I have just been busy at work the hospital I work at has been swamped so I have been volunteering to work extra shifts. But more hrs means more money for parts. So hopefully I will have some time soon to get some more work done.
 
Finished sanding the tank today and then put down a coat of high build primer and am going to work it down with some wet dry. I also did some test fitting of the headlight and blinkers. I'm using the body from an old speedo that I had laying around to giv me an idea of the size and configureation.

Spent some time in the shop today. I got the forks taken apart cleaned and reassembled with new seals.

In the shop today doing a bit of work and decided to mock up the parts on the bike to give me some motivation. I am going to go with slightly taller rear shocks and the tire combo I have on my current bike.

Started working on the left hand control today. Pulled it apart cut out the wires I won't use and painted the housing. The pic is a bit crapy but I think it carries the idea across.

I picked he headlight up off amazons for around $60. I have seen the same light on eBay for a similar price. I did a search for streetfighter headlight and this a one popped up. I will attach a link

I took the front caliper apart last night. I'm planning on cleaning, painting and replacing seals. I have a couple of questions. 1. Does any one have suggestions on paint that will not be damaged by brAkers fluid? 2. Do I have to use Honda specific rubber seals in here again or is there an alternative O-ring/ rubber seal option?

I made brake caliper soup the other day. I had previously disassembled the caliper and then boiled it in a mixture of lemon juice and water. After a rinse in clean water I boiled them with baking soda and then another rinse. It got all of the parts nice and clean. Now I need to strip off any loose paint, paint with a fresh coat of caliper paint and order seals.

Went to pick up some parts from storage and found a front fend from a gl1000 that I hab in a box-o-parts. Drilled out the rivets and put it on in place of the gl500 brace that was on the forks previously. The new brace has much more clearance and gives the front more of the look I was going for. I also made a bracket and installed the speedometer I recived from Dime City.

This is such an underrated way to clean carbs. This how i do all mine followed by soda blast.
 
I have a set of cb550 cards that are going to get this treatment. The cb550 had been sitting for about 20 years. A friend of mine bought it and then realized he was in over his head and call me to pick it up and rebuild it for him.
 
This bike has been on the back burner for a little while because I have been working on a CB550 for a friend. So hopefully I will be getting back to to this 450 soon.
 
So I found an awesome motorcycle salvage about 45 minuets from my house. I had a pretty good luck found a set of straight dual sport bars for $12. I also found a nice set of cb650 headers for $50. I will be visiting this yard many times in my future. Enough of how awesome the parts treasure trove I found is and here's a pick of the 450 with the new to me bars on it.

I have been busy rebuilding a 1978 cb550 for a friend. I've done a full engine strip and clean/paint now I'm having it bored out to 600cc. I have also been working on the frame and other bits. So needless to say my progress on the 450 has been slow but I am still making some progress. I have been laying out the wiring and deciding how to best run it among other small things. When the cb550 is finished I will post up before after and progress shots.

Did a little bit of work on the bike tonight. Put the key switch in but it loks like I'm going to need a spacer under the steering head nut to fill the gap and tighten things down. Also getting the coil put together .

I made up a plate to cover up all the wiring in the face area. Used some cardboard to make a templat and chech the fit. Then went to work on some perforated steel sheet cut it bent it drilled it and finished it in black rubber coat. I will post more pics when it is installed and all the wires are routed.
