Well the recoat is supposed to be after 16 hours, but thinning it down wil apparently reduce that time. That said, I didn't thin it enough and the paint has gone on too thick so almost a day later (4 hours of which has been outside on the pavers in the 30 degree sun) and I can still leave a thumb print in the paint. I had thinned it about 20% but I'm gonna go closer to 50% next time, which is what is recommended for this method. The gloss does look good, but there are scratches and scuff marks from the first lot of sanding. I'm sure it'll come back good with some 800 grit though.
Big ups to Crescent Son. He PM'd me a while back and offered to photochop some paint ideas to see how it would come out. I think he pulled a pretty late one as I was still getting pictures sent through at 11am local time. I guess that makes it 2 or 3am on the other side of the pond.
What follows is four concepts in order of occurence. My preference is for the white front with white wheels though I prefer the plain tank, as there still needs to be included somewhere a small round honda tank badge. I also wanted to fit the local patch for the australian chapter of DTT and the symbol from the Australian CX Association, possibly on each of the side covers.
I also can't help but think the BMW style of white striping all over might look hot as well.
No, its only 7:42 PM. But I worked last night, got in at 7 AM, and am running on various high cal caffeine carbonated sugary beverages. I lied though, I'm working on the beemer stripes now.
I know. I had to get the tissues out to clean up the monitor after he emailed me those pics.
The more I look at it, the more I prefer the plain tank. A thin red stripe on the edge of the rim would set it off for sure. I also think the logo might need to be toned back a bit too as it distracts from that sexy ass fairing.
So bloody glad I found that thing two years ago!
For those that remember, this thing has a headlight eyebrow too. That'll really suit the scallops.....
Holey SHIT Crescent, Great work! Not that I am saying I can do any better than those AWESOME renditions but thought I would throw this up. A little less work and still get the wow factor. Since I don't have photoshop you'll have to settle for MS Paint... LOL

It's good isn't it Justin. It's much more subtle. I've got the number of a local pinstriper I'll be getting in touch with. Money's a bit tight at the moment though so I may end up doing this stuff myself by masking off and spraying.

Paul, I want to apologize for not commenting here often. I play your vids while I'm working in the garage, then get caught up in my own thing and don't reply. I can't tell you how many times I run over to my phone to see what you are talking about!

Looks pretty good. I'm still lusting over those scallops those. One mans opinion.
If you aren't set on paint, you could always use vinyl for the the pin stripping. It'd stay the same width and once you clear over top of it it's on there to stay. I know at auto stores here they sell it in different widths.

Jay, I won't be clear coating it. Yep, you heard right
The beauty of that is any paint repairs I can do myself with the readily available paint I'll be keeping in the shed.
The other great thing is over time the stripes will wear, and they'll really start to give the bike an ausa of a well travelled machine. This thing will be painted to take the stone chips and bugs as often as possible. I too lust over the scallops as well. I wonder if there's room for both....
