I agree, the fenders really give it that 'vintage' vibe in addition to the fairing, I don't even think the rear needs to be cut back at all. Looking great.

Thanks guys. I had originally planned on running no rear fender and making my own front one but after putting these one I really like the look it brings. Like you said, more vintage looking. The main reason I want to trim the rear fender is that the one I have seems to be screwed up a bit and flares out at the bottom making it seem overly wide and overwhelms the size of the seat. If I can fix this then I won't need to trim too much. I'll be doing my first trims in Photoshop anyway so no worries about cutting too much off

Spent yesterday trimming the tail to fit around the fender and also trimmed off some damage to the end of the fender. Ended up removing around 1.5 inches and I really like this size. Getting excited now, just have one task left (modify centre stand to add a stop like the CL stand) and then I can begin the teardown.

Finished modifying the centre stand to add a tab so it doesn't hit the chain. Thinking this is the last task I need to do before I start teardown. Will do a final going over just to make sure, then start disassembly this weekend. Have a couple more things to fab but don't need the bike together to do them. Will be good timing since I will need the table for the 500X so I can check the valve clearances this winter.

i haven't read the whole thing whats the color scheme ?
if you plan on riding it at all i have a few pairs of eye to clevis steel bodied konis available,they were made for cb hondas, they are just waiting on refurbishing and to being wanted, can spring them correctly for you as well
i can even put the chrome covers on i have some
perfect period upgrade you will really feel it those stock shocks are not worthy

Small update, finally got around to stripping the frame and prepping it for paint. Few small things I need to touch up prior to painting like where I removed the hinges and seat lock and few small scratches and dings. Some light surface rust all over the frame but nothing major.
Have to say this was the worst frame I've ever worked with, too many nooks and crannies, real pain to strip. Glad its over, give me a 'normal' tubed frame any day. Hope to get the few items listed above cleaned up and get a coat of primer on this weekend.

Ha ha, I think that's why I'm so drawn to your 250, love a gold on black theme.
I think I'm just going to play it safe with a semi-gloss black frame. I haven't decided on colours for the tank, fairing and seat yet so will go with black frame to be safe.

Started in on the forks this weekend, starting with the right side one. Disassembly went very smooth and everything looked good. Was expecting the usual fish smell when I drained them but nothing. Spent the rest of Saturday and this morning sanding and then polishing the lowers. Few dings that were too deep to sand out but I don't mind that, nothing wrong with seeing some history on the parts. Will tackle the left fork this week and pick up some brake fluid.
