Difference between a CB750 and a RC04? Help ID my new toy

Well firstly, Hi all. This will make my first (of hopefully many) posts to their forum which has already proven an awesome resource of inspiration and tips.

I recently picked up a Honda CB750 1982 model from Gum Tree, the aussie answer to CL. However I can't quite work out what it is. It has a VIN starting with RC04400... and an Engine Number RC04E231... but with those massive fairings I can't quite work out what it is. It is a DOHC and the side covers (not imaged) had CB750 F2 badges on them but I'm not sure.

The main reason I need help identifying this is to ensure whatever documentation I use as a resource for the tear down and build will be suitable to the bike.

Images to help

Cheers in advance from Australia!

Welcome to the forum! Very nice bike. Rough, but plenty of potential.

It's a 750f2 Integra. Here's a link to the specs and some archival pics.

Haynes makes a workshop manual for that model. You might also be able to find one online for free but I have no idea where. Someone else on the forum might be able to help you find one.

State side that was a 750 Nighthawk... standard DOHC 750 engine/trans/sprockets etc. Common as dirt parts. The whole package on the other hand, not so common, the body work is model specific.

90,000+ miles! Damn that's a lot... You are pretty much going to have to go through the entire engine...
A site I use often for identification info that has never let me down is:http://www.motorera.com/honda/index.htm

There are a lot of 750 versions but they all have pics and vim frame/engine numbers to help with identification...

I actually kinda like the front fairing. Suits that bike well.

In Europe it was designated the CB750F2C some also say CB750FC2

Engine is basically the same as an RC01 with improved cam chain tensioners, Wheels are the boomerang comstars and it has dual piston front and rear calipers. Obviously theres the fairing and headlight changes. Otherwise parts are interchangeable between other DOHC 750s
As said thats a lot milage, they usually need cam and primary chains replacing after 30000 miles.

Australia had different regulations back then so often got the 'best' motors and chassis
Honda probably won't tell you but you'll probably find carbs/jetting is different to Euro or USA and cam timing may well be different
It will need all the chains changed out and may need a re-bore, but, often new rings will put motor close to stock, even with 90,000 miles
Fairing really suits bike, I would just clean it up, fit new bars and ride it.
in my opinion the 750 was a 'better' motor than the 900, short stroke crank and big bore piston kit makes it real 'interesting' ;)
It will go out to 998cc 8) (needs stronger rods and crank re-balanced)

Sorry for the late reply. I just want to think everyone for their input. There is evidence that the cam bearing/shims have been recently replaced however I'm still thinking a light refresh to the engine while it is out will be in order while I have it apart for cleaning and painting. The fairings are growing on me but they are just not what I am after so they will not be going back onto the bike, hopefully someone will want them and collect them from me some day.

I don't remember a 750 Roller Door in that F2C version. I recall the 900, so I must have been asleep for that. It's basically a CB750FC with fairing - That's model year C not C for Custom.

I seem to recall that was the last of that line and they didn't sell as many as the earlier bikes, but I could have that all screwed up.

Fairings should be sellable and the rest can be turned into a Freddie Spencer replica.

Hello chaps. First post from an avid new member.
For some reason Ive gone out and bought myself this (see photos)
Frame and engine don't match which is OK by me but I can't seem to locate this frame anywhere. Note the rear frame leg has a kink in it and the bracket above is cast and not welded I think. In fact the whole rear section looks cast. Can this be possible. Engine is an 83 but what year, but more importantly what model is the frame??. Any thoughts gents ??
Thanks in advance
Jonno

That's been re-welded to fit shocks at lower angle. You'll probably find a bunch of body filler under the paint. I think it was called 'konging' the frame to modify like that?

Hello guys,

first post of a new member...

Have a CB750 RC04 cafe racer with a RC01 motor... Was trying to see how's the motor doing and found out it looks pretty bad. Best solution is to get a used one. I've an interesting motor RC06... Don't have much info about the RC06. Is it compatible with the RC04 frame?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site. Your best bet is likely to start a Project Thread here: https://www.dotheton.com/index.php?forums/cafe-racers.6/ and include some photos if you can.
