With a graphic of Spiderman on it?

100 mi ride, eh? Bet that Valkyrie seat felt pretty comfy. So did you get it up over 130mph on your ride. I have it from reliable sources that that ol' girl can hit at least 130mph.....bags and all. 8)

Honda listed top speed as 124 mph but it will do as much as 130 fully loaded and n'kd you can get close to 140. That is GPS confirmed, not optimistic Honda Speedo confirmeg ;D

The CBX was listed as factory top speed of 124MPH too. and that bike will go a lot faster. Honda wouldn't list a higher speed than 124MPH back then.

Ha. Gents, this is the guy what sold me the 'wing... And I have not hit 130.

LOL! I have topped my GL out 1 time. And it was too fast for it. I may try it again when I get a steering damper on it.

After a bit over a month on a Goldwing, Rich has taken to wearing a suit and tie, drinking tea, and using a cigarette holder.

BTW, Rich, do you happen to have any Grey Poupon??

I don't. But if I find a little package of it, it's going in the glovebox...of my motorcycle

For me, one of the beauties of the GL1000 is the relative simplicity. Now, many of you DTT folks will scoff - but I ride a GL1800 daily, and compared to it, the 1000's were definitely simple. Points, carbs (Ok, 7 jets in each of the 4 carbs isn't too simple), and no computer! My experience with the carbs is to avoid ethanol if at all possible, and add a LITTLE Techron every-other tank. Many GL owners still use Rotella dino oil in the older bikes, blue jug synth in the 1800's.

Next - lay her down on the engine guards and turn backwards, put your butt on the seat, and learn to pick up a heavy bike.

The only challenging thing about a gl1000 is reading the oil sight glass

That is a very true statement, get flashlight, lie on garage floor, point light, try and see oil if it is really clean oil you have to turn the little wipey thing and jiggle the bike a little to see it move ever so slightly. Thank god my bike doesn't use much oil between changes cause I hate trying to top it off, one second it looks a little low, a second later its over the full marks.

i just install a dipstick in where the oil plug goes

i dont bend that well or see that well and i always keep the oil clean

I saw that mod on NGW, I think I may do it to as I am starting to not bend well, seeing is still good but man I hate crawling on the garage floor. And I have had to do it 3 days in a row fixing damn cars.

PS sorry for carrying on conversations in your thread Rich, but it does keep it up at the top, easy to find ;D

Ha! No problem, I've been known to do a bit of it myself ;)

Its a GL1100, but you think its bad on just a bike, try checking the oil when there is a hack bolted on,

Can't even begin to crawl under that rig. If my skinny son ain't around to check it, pretty much have to get a set of field glasses and lay on the ground out by the hack wheel!!

Have put a couple of those front mount dipsticks on customer bikes, but just never seem to be able to get around to putting one on my own. THey do seem to work quite well and the customers seem to like them.
