Doing the 1/3 Ton - 1978 GL1000

Bought a mint '84 Aspencade with a matching California Friendship I rig this summer. Got it from the 2nd owner, who had bought it from an estate sale three years ago. He also had a Victory and a VTX1800. He bought the hack rig for no other reason than to give his dogs a ride.

Don't have a dog, but what I've found is that little kids just love sidecar rides, so much so, some even ask for ride for a birthday present!.

heres a few of my 78 the last time i had it out

and i found you some rotors if you still need them

I love those pipes murray, where are they from? I need a set, mine are pretty much rotted through.

i tig welded a exhaust pipe adapters from advance onto the stock header where the muffler rotted off

they are 1 3/4 i think they were like 4 dollars each or something

those are some reverse cone muffler i got from a buy out i think they are for a triumph?

i was able to use the stock foot peg bolt hole and plate to hold it up

the muffler slid right over the 1 3/4 adapter and clamp down it was a 20 minute job been like that for 4

years already

sound good and works well

rich pm me a offer

as you know the PITA is getting them off the hulk they are on and sending them to you

see me standing in the back????

the rotors are on a rolling frame behind me under the mezzanine !!!!!!!

Ha! Let me pay out on a couple other things and I'll do that. If I buy anything before "wife bike" is street able there'll be he'll to pay.

Nice 450 there

Rich, check a few things out first. First off determine which rotor or if both are causing the problem. Then try switching sides with them. If it is just one, you can try removing it, rotating it to different mounting holes and remounting it. Sometimes those little tricks can take away a pulsating feeling

BTW, CXman...nice '78. Always thought they were one of the best years for the naked wings.

......or, you could just take them off and bring them by the shop and we can set them on the flat table and also take some measurements.

best to check them for runout on the rim

at the factory they are installed with this shim gasket tat dampens vibration once you remove the rotors

you never have those again

Rich, nice bike... your back will thank you for it. If you're coming over Saturday; bring the rotors. We'll chuck em up on the brake lathe, check the runout and maybe shave em if they have enough meat left. Hope you can make it.

Got a spare tach off a 1977, not sure if it'll fit? You're welcome to it.

Ray - is there a VJMC event at your shop this weekend? I haven't seen Blevins for a while. Unfortunately, I'll be taking the kids on a trip this weekend.

Yup, Saturday noon til ? Sorry you can't make it. Let me know if you're interested in the tach.

All set - cleaned mine up and it's working. I'm at Checkered Past a couple nights a week now as Charlie figured out that if he started feeding me his surplus bikes he'd have cheap labor...
