Well if the splines are stripped on the output shaft, it's one of those get-me-home-fixes...

Unfortunately, they’re dumber than that. The most credit I can give them is they broke the screw off that secured the sprocket. However, it’s not a stock sprocket, either. It’s thicker at the shaft. The second pic is my replacement countershaft and a used up stock sprocket.

I wonder if the other mounts would even line up. I thought 550 and 750 engines differed a good bit in that way.

The mounts look like a 750 frame. If the frame was made in 1977 or later federal law dictated a manufacturers identification number. Not a VIN, but similar. It was mostly for legal and product liability purposes. If you remove the paint at the rear of the neck on the right side of the frame you may find the numbers. If it is a 750 frame it will start H750 with 4 or more numbers. The 500/550 frames will be H500 or H550. My last three AMEN frames were made in 77 or later with numbers H750xxxx. I used these as VIN numbers when I registered the bikes.

You guys aren't following along. HAHA. Yeah, I identified this as a 750 frame a long time ago. ;) I have another CB750 chopper, so it was easy to figure out. The fact that the 550 engine doesn't at all fit was another clue. The mounts are inches apart. Appreciate the advice on identifying if it's in fact an Amen. That's a bit of knowledge I've yet to come across.

So what are you going to build out of the 550 engine?
Good question. Maybe it goes into another actual 550 hardtail frame. Or maybe some sort of vintage racer. Maybe I just sell it, which is the most likely scenario.

I’ve got a 550 rolling chassis that’s calling your name.
