February 2011 BIKE OF THE MONTH - WINNER!

So this is where you choose to jump in with your first post. I like your style!

I don't think its a criteria. having said that I think that with the right rider and the bike dialed in it might hit it. Top speed stock was around 80mph. With the weight shaved off this thing and the Mikunis added I think its in the realm of possible. Might take an upgrade in the ignition but who knows. I know Nate, who had the CB200 remix build here, got really close to the ton before he sold the bike.

Anyway, welcome aboard Hacksaw!

There's not a doubt in my mind that bike could hit 100. Just need all the right circumstances.

And the criteria is layed out before voting, so yes it qualifies.

I have now read a couple post from hacksawgarage.........I have to say you make quite an entrance! I hope your screen name is not derived from your actions of removing an engine from a frame like that hack builder from cafe racer TV!!!!!!!!!!

My advice to you hacksawgarage is that if you have nothing informative, constructive, or otherwise polite thing to say........you should just post nothing at all! We here welcome new comers and hold respect for any builder. We only want to help each other and enjoy the work that each of us creates, if that is not your purpose here, then you are welcome to exit!

If you are here to build bikes, learn, and contribute useful information, then we welcome you and look forward to seeing your work.

The guide lines for BOTM are listed in the beginning of each nomination thread, that is the rules and the only rules, so let democracy decide what bike graces the headline banner of this site.

As for the multiple styles of bikes represented here, well that has derived from a diverse crowd of garage bike builders that may have a cafe and another style; we are open to all styles because ultimately they are still building custom motorcycles. We are proud to be a home where members can consult and discuss motorcycle building of any kind. I hope you understand.

Well said, twist! It is obvious that even in light of some of the more strict rules discussed in other parts of the Forum, Nate's beautiful bike qualifies easily. By looking at his profile you know he is a long time contributor and even as short a time as I have been lurking and then a member, I have seen many posts from Nate giving advice and help to many people. We also know that the build was documented........it's a cafe racer, the build quality is excellent....what more could anyone want to have it qualify? Does it do the ton? Probably not, but who cares? Remember, in the early days of cafe racing, the ton was something one aspired to...not something you had to achieve to participate! Maybe someday we will have a build of 200cc that hits the ton.....that would be great.
Another point...the smaller bikes are much harder to get a really great build from. There are fewer parts available, tuning and improvement info is sparse, and perhaps hardest of all, their small size makes it more difficult to get the various style elements of the bike in proportion.
Again, well done, Nate!!

Hey Jack,

While Nate did build a great 200 documented here this one was built by Scott. ;)

You're right about parts availability on these things. some things just aren't available at all. funny thing is I chose the bike as I thought it would be easier to work on. A 350 would have been a better choice for that concern.

I gotta say though B. I just read all of his posts and didnt see anything dickish... Did I miss something?

Every time I see a cable front disc, I remember mine, on my cb200, and how I'm lucky I never killed myself. Those things are useless!!! (I know, its stock, I'm not diggin him about it)

Thanks!

Hey, those cable discs get a bad rap. This one works great and the one on the beater 200 I have works great too. like everything else they need to be maintained and set up right. Mine stop the bike on a dime just like a hydraulic rig. When I built it I was prepared to put a hydraulic rig in if I couldn't get this set up to work right but it works great!
