Fitting a Quick Release Pin to secure my fuel tank to the frame.

Been Around the Block
Since I am always tinkering, I what a better to release and refit the front of the tank.
The tank has a hinge at the back and 2 x 6mm bolts holding the front down to the frame.
I am interested in what others have done.
I am thinking of drilling out the thread and fitting these.

I drilled out the threads with a 6mm drill, the pins measured 5.9 mm and across the locking balls is 6.9.
The pins are heaver construction than I expected. and the shank is 35mm long, 5mm longer than needed.
My plan was to shim the extra length but despite measuring the required length I have ended up 11mm oversize and the top triple hits them on lock.
So new plan, order 2 more with 25mm shank. 10mm shorter

Since I am always working under the tank I bought push button quick release pins.
The pins I bought were too long and hit the top triple clamp.
A temporary fit until the shorter pins arrive, I ground down the diameter of the longer pins so the upper tree doesn't hit and used rubber tube as spacers.

This is a good idea, most of my electrical has been tucked under the tank of my bike. I may consider something like this in the future as well. Where did you order the pins from?

I ordered them from aliexpress I got stainless with alloy caps. some seller had alloy or stainless and some have plastic caps.

I think stainless is definitely the way to go. With more though I think these are a definitely going to happen project, as roadside troubleshooting could be made a lot easier with something like this on the tank. Not that I want to be doing a whole lot of roadside troubleshooting.

Just got the correct size quick release pins to retain my tank, all in with no clearance issues. For more under tank clearance I could fit the first pins I got which are about 10mm longer they could be used with a spacer because I have turned down the heads for triple tree clearance but I don't think the turned down heads look neat.

Hi I dont suppose you have the listing for the 25mm handy It is what I have been looking for but I only want to buy once. cheers

It's a great idea and looks like decent execution. Had an issue recently that saw me going on and off with the tank probably 30-40 times with a remount to test in between each, can definitely appreciate the need for something like that on a bike that doesn't come with it OOTB.

Makes me appreciate the rubber flappy thing holding the tank down in the back on my old CB550. Even if I'm sure there's very good reason nobody does that anymore. :D
