garage assembly

Coast to Coast
So at the end of february I left washington state and sold the house there. Unfortunately despite having a job lined up things didn't go as smooth as I had hoped and after getting laid off for 3 weeks it took longer to get a house than I hoped. I got called back to work and bought a house, so after 2 months of everything being stored I got moved.

Now after being in the house about a month in finally starting to set up the garage. First thing was to move a few items into the house and make the room to assemble the mill and put the new air compressor where I wanted. That opened a bunch of room so now I can get the dresser moved out of the garage and put the lathe and horizontal mill in their home. And once that's done I can set up the vapor blast cabinet and start unloading boxes.

So here is a picture of the work so far.

Great stuff. I probably have at least one more big move ahead and it's going to be a doozy.

Lol, I don't want to think about it either.

I did plenty of army moves over the time I was in. I didn't have nearly as much stuff then either.

I'm hoping this is the last big move for me. Washington to Oklahoma. I had to take the mill apart to get it in the Uhaul.

I've done a few over the years and I do not want to do another anytime soon. the last was almost 100% done by a moving company and paid for by my employer and it still was too much work LOL. Glad to see you getting the garage sorted though for sure.

This move was the biggest pain. 3 trips, 1st driving my truck with trailer, flew back and then loaded and drove a 26ft uhaul, then almost 2 months later flew back and drove the wife down.

Between all that everything sat in a storage unit. So when I was laid off I had nothing to really do. Now I have too much to do and none of it is what I want.

Well I got one piece of the puzzle. I needed a bigger toolbox and ended up finding a 44" kennedy roller with top box for $200. The drawer slides were all out of place, so I had to pull the drawers and properly install the slides. Now they all open and close properly.

Looks like it was owned by a rocket scientist named Scott. :)Nice score for that kind of money.

I think it's an old scott goggle sticker. There's an atv sticker on the side. I'm the 3rd owner I think. Original worked at tinker airforce base, then the guy I got it from has a big mower dealership and rides bikes and atvs, and now me.

What a great find! Starting the new garage off right. More toolbox space sure saves time looking for the desired tool. I'm already very pleased with my added US General 22x26 bottom. Splitting tools up from the old Crapsman lets me see and grab the tool that I want instead of burrowing for it. Check out the mat material at HF. Unless I really slam a drawer, tools stay where I put them!

It's missing one! It needs an Ichiban Moto sticker prominently and proudly displayed! :D

Lol, it'll start getting stickers as I get stuff. Here's the lid on my tool cart, it's about full.

I was looking at getting one of the 44" boxes from harbor freight, with a coupon you can get one for $450 and they are pretty darn nice for the price. I can't bring myself to spend thousands on a toolbox. I was watching the various selling sites to see if a killer deal would pop up, and saw this box after it had been up a day. I'm honestly surprised it wasn't gone already. But I couldn't pass this kennedy up for the price. I've got a kennedy for my machining tools and know they are quality.

Slowly getting there. The big mill needs to move out about 6", the horizontal can probably move a foot or 2 closer to the big mill, then the toolbox with all the machine tools can go between it and the lathe.

I plan on taking out a built in workbench because the big toolbox will fit in the recess, which will give me a spot to put the press. And then I can really start organizing with some stuff going out to the shed.

Yeah. It's a 2 ton hoist from harbor freight. It was used to move the complete mill in washington, then later used to disassemble the mill and load/unload it from a uhaul, and finally to load/unload the parts from my trailer and reassemble the mill. It has been worth every penny of the $170 I paid years ago. They've gone up a bit at $189 with a coupon.

Got enough room to take a break from organizing and fix 1 thing. The little ATV I picked up for the wife was smoking pretty good. So top end rebuild, I went in thinking new piston, clean the valves, and new gaskets.

Picked up a spare cylinder from ebay so I wouldn't have to tear it down then wait for the bore job. Picked up the finished cylinder monday, tore into it yesterday. Everything came apart without a huge hassle, base gasket even came off ok. Get the new cylinder and piston on, and turn to the head. Well intake is fine, exhaust valve looked fine until I spun it in my fingers. Its pretty bent, I'm honestly surprised this thing ran as well as it did. So off to ebay, found a valve set for $30 and a spare head for $35. So now it's waiting on parts, the spare head is incase the valve guide is damaged from running for who knows how long with a bent valve.

Here's a couple pics now that the TRX is back together. New 1mm over piston, new valves, new tie rod ends, and now it smokes when hot. I think Its just burning all the old oil out of the muffler now, when you first start it there is no smoke, but as the muffler gets hot it smokes.

You can see how bent the exhaust valve was, and where it hit the piston. Definitely feels like it has more power. And the steering feels a lot more positive, the old tierod ends had a bunch of play.
