GL1000 or 1100 exhaust.

PO of my project bike tried to weld up the rust holes in the exhaust. Didn't work out. Let me know what ya got.

I have a set of pipes that came on my '83 GL1100.. turn-out tips welded onto the headers, no baffles, wrapped. Loud! Not sure they'd fit a GL1000...

I cranked my bike up the other day with no muffles on it. Sounds good at idle but I think it'd be a little loud for every day riding.

The headers on a GL1000 are sepperate from the rest of the exhaust, did the PO weld on them?
The reason I ask is a GL1100 is one piece header to tail. On my 1100 I bought 1000 headers and used a short 1 3/4 " section from the Autoparts store and attached some E-Bayed Sportster take off mufflers to them...

i tig weld a chunk of 1 3/4 on like h/d said and install whatever mufflers i choose

do you not have the headers?

The headers had holes rusted in them. The PO tried to weld over it and did a bad job of it. There's still holes and globs of weld, it's pretty well toast. The muffler had so much rust that when I was removing it the parts of it fell off in my hand.
