GR650......starting over for the last time

Grrrrrrr wiring !

I'm good on single circuits, but motorcycles daisy chain everything together to make it lighter and less wiring. That shit is awful to deal with,as is automotive wiring.

Thanks gents. Scott - I'm STILL working on wiring. What a pita! John, I'm just hoping it is rideable when I'm done....

Ok, got the rear tire mounted up and everything straightened out in the rear end:

Matching front tire (120/70zr-17). Unfortunately I'm waiting to get the wheel mounted up because of some sketchy wheel bearings.....

Since the wheel is off though, I mounted a fender extender from a GS500 on to the Bandit fender:

One of my wiring hurdles came in from China! It has a fuel gauge, gear indicator, etc, but oddly enough doesn't have an oil pressure warning light.....

Here's the speedo mounted up in a VERY rough cut piece of aluminum along with a voltage indicator :

Started wiring up all that mess last night:

And lastly, mounted and wired in the mirrors / front signals:

My work schedule for the next week or so really sucks, so I won't be getting much shop time.

Rich, this thing I'd looking more awesome by the day!
Keep it up man; I need the motivation!

Thanks fellas!

Worked on the dash a little more recently. A red led bolt for the oil pressure light, and tested the fuel gauge too. Since I'm not putting 6 gallons of gas in the tank just to test it, I just extended the wires that hook up the tank, and flipped the tank over on the floor. Went from empty to full in a couple of seconds....

Who makes that gauge? How does the gear indicator work?

Probably 100 little kids in China.....:

But the gear indicator feeds off of wires coming from the engine (pre-existing on the GR650) the same way as a neutral indicator light. Stock, the GR has 5 separate bulbs.... one for each gear. All I need to do is extend the factory wiring up to the cluster.

Ben: the fuel gauge works the same way. Well, kinda. There is a sending unit in the tank (looks like a float valve in the back of a toilet). I think the higher the float, the more / less resistance in the wiring to the fuel guage.

Mike!! I heard you had a run in with a hooved rat.... glad to see you're at least typing. We wish you a speedy recovery bud.

When deer season rolls around in PA, I'll try and get a couple extra for you.....

Thanks man. Still in hospital healing. Just got a new cast and had xrays to see about at least getting home. 5 weeks in s bed sucks. Get as many deer as you can and eat them for me.

Did you have to modify the tank for the float/sending unit?

Nope. Stock GR tank has a sending unit (so the wires were already in place) and the GS850 tank has a sending unit. It's a win-win deal for me.

If you search around on ebay for GS fuel tank sending units, there's always a couple on there. I know you want one for a GS500....
