Something you might want to think about is wind blast !! I like the Yam myself but at one time had a honda 919 and was a great naked bike. Had zero problems with the bike over all and could ride as long as i liked . But the wind blast from no fairing or fly screen took alot of fun out on long hauls. See what they make for one bike or the other as far as small screens , bags, tank bags, pipes small stuff !! Good luck and enjoy

Good advice there Scott. I have an aftermarket screen for long haul trips. I ride without it most of the time but it makes any ride where freeway speeds will happen for more than half an hour much easier on the body. And on MPG. The screen allows the bike to hold 80 MPH at about 5-600 rpm lower than without it. Adds up as the miles accumulate

If I were going modern I'd be on a street triple

I'm the same way. My little brother has one and the thing is amazing. I'd be dead if I owned one, myself. every review the bike has and every bike they compare it against it always wins hands down. Triumph is doing something right, and that's not even taking into account my brit bike bias.

Agreed, as much as I love riding modern sport bikes, my IQ outweighs my testosterone in this case haha.
First time I got on one I was going 140 before I even blinked, since then I'll take one around the block if someone wants me to, but I will not own one, id be dead too fast. Maybe when im a geezer and My right hand listens to me haha

same advice i give everyone....get a Vmax.....200bhp, you know it makes sense, alright it doesn't handle like any of the other bikes above but pulling 200 yard rolling burnouts in top gear will soon have you forgetting all about corners and such silliness

admittedly i only have the old 120bhp one but nothing i've ever ridden comes close to it, i don't think i'll ever get sick of wasting sports bike riders off the lights, they're madly slipping clutches and controlling wheelstands and i just dump the clutch and give it full throttle into the distance

hope this has been of help.......heeheeheeheeheeheehee (disappears in a cloud of tyre smoke)

Well thanks to all that gave me advice and for taking the time to vote ;) so as you can see from the poll i'll be getting the Fz8n (which I was leaning to) I'll be ordering it in the next to weeks for my Birthday ;D thanks again all andy...

Well I put the XL600RM up for sale last night and by this afternoon "it's sold" ;D budget for new gear achieved ;D stoked.....

Thanks JL....

So I spoke to the sales guy that I have been dealing with and agreed to drop into the shop the next day to put down a deposit and get some of the paperwork taken care of. (bike wont be here till mid March) So I know this means I would be calling in on a Friday afternoon and he would be somewhat busy completing other deals, I call ahead by 30 mins to let them know I was on my way (sales 101 : if you know you are going to be flat out and you can reshedule do it now!) I get to the store and the guy is completing the end of a deal (no problem) I have a look around the shop then take a seat and read a mag, 30min later not a word and he's just about finished sliding this guy out the door. Next thing another guy who had come in to complete a deal (after me) is sitting down with the guy and still not a word??? Now i'm a paitant guy and can wait my turn but when I feel ignored thats when I get pissed off! I walk over to the guy and tell him that I can see that he's busy and that I will come back with my money next week, this is when he gets that look like OH SHIT THERE GOES $16000 OUT THE DOOR. I'm still going to buy the bike from this store, however I will speak to the owner about team effort to look after customers and then see if I can get a better deal.

Sorry about the rant (feels better now that I written it down) but this is my first new bike in 12+ years and I hate feeling like a number.......

Same/Similar shit happened to us. We aren't fancy people by any means, especially when it comes to how we dress. I think we had been working outside that afternoon, so we were extra "poor" looking and rode over to the triumph dealer to check out the new Thruxton. We had been planning on buying a new bike and very well could have that afternoon if the mood struck us just right. 10 minutes of standing in front of the bike, sitting on it, talking about it and not one damn person came over to help, We had to actually go get someone to ask a couple questions. Then, I had to ask the guy for his card because he didn't offer it! Needless to say, we will driving an hour North to the next dealership.

I did call another dealer an hour away prior to this and he seemed to be keen as to help, only problem is that not only us this dealer very close tge have a fantastic service center too  still I do think I will be abke to use this to my advantage to bargain a better deal all round, maybe a 2nd $500+ helmet for the wife ;)
