GS450 "Sport" - Done!

This is great Rich. Everyone needs an suv bike. Now a side car and studded tires you can ride year round and you can leave the truck soley for taking Meg to dinner!

Let me know what you end up doing with that Supertrapp Rich.

Thanks Ben! I always have the GR to work on, so I've been doing a lot of planning for it (plus buying some parts when they show up cheap). And I have a GS500 motor laying around that needs a top end refresh ......which might find its way to the 450. But I don't want to tear apart a perfectly good 450 until the 650 is a rider.

And Brodie, I'll let you know! Are you looking at a muffler for your 750?

Re: GS450 "Sport" - Done!

Yep. I am think a Supertrapp will be perfect as I can adjust it easily.

Cool man. I think Hoosier put one on his 750 and liked it too. Whatever you do, don't have just a few discs mounted and take it at high rpm's on the highway at night - too much back pressure can blow it right off the pipe and drag it shooting sparks the whole way.

But they are completely rebuildable, haha!

Yes sir... really happy with mine. With my GS750, I think I have 8 discs. But I also I have a large single Uni pod filter attached to the front (carb side) stock airbox.
Congrats again Rich,

Had to share these:

Custom made by a guy over in Germany. Preload adjusters for my GS500 forks! Won't be able to install them for a coupe days though.....

What did those cost?I am considering doing some extensive rework to my GS front end and put it back on my black 89,so I can use the Katana 750 front end on my on/off road touring GS.

Jim Knopf made them (you know who that is.....) and sold them to Steezin, who sold them to me. I'd say they were an absolute steal for $40......

Heck yeah! Jim does some outstanding work.

So here's the new fork caps compared to the original:

I had to make the round discs to go under the fork caps - or else the adjustment screws just go in the center of the PVC spacer / pipe. With the screw backed out all the way and the round disc on top, they measured about 20mm, so I cut 25mm off the PVC spacer. Everything installed (on a very filthy but well ridden bike.... haha):

this is the best kind. I wash mine every year, just before I put it away for the winter. OTher then that, I clean the headlight and tail light, it gets filthy cause I ride it like you, in all weather etc.

I hear that Mike. A friend of mine just bought a brand new Yamaha FZ8 and I've been helping her setting up the suspension / controls. She asked me "what do you use to wash your bike?" and I said "I ride it fast in the rain".

YES! although it cooks the muck and shit to the pipes bad LOL.

Those look very similar to the preload adjusters on my old Thruxton. They look like a very nice addition.

Thanks John. They are one of those things that you might never use, but it's good to have them.

I was pretty amazed at the difference they would make on the Thrux. When I first got it they were on a very soft setting and the front end felt like crap. A few turns of the adjusters and it felt way better.
