Hey I am 17 year old cegep student ( Quebec scholar system, It's between highschool and univeristy) ,from montreal, in the field of mechanical engineering.
Proud to have obtained my full motorcycle license at 16 before my car license a bit stupide , but passion is passion ::)

I wanted an old bike because I was facinated by cafe racers, so one thing lead to another and this summer I ended with 300$ 1977 gs750 in a quite good condition.
Like any gs750 It wasn't long before it died on me du to elctrical issues.
luckily the compression is near perfect for all cylinders and I found the biggest maintance document on the 1977 gs750 thanks to this website !

I am planing to change and buy:
-The tail and all the backsection
-I would like to have spoke rims but It's not something crucial
-speedo and rpm will be changed current speedo is dead
-the ingention wires ,stator, and rectifier (not sure about it, but it's supposed to be one of the best mods for gs's)
-battery for a smaller one
-the wire harness will be remade with new wires and new conectors ( this the thing that scares me the most :-\)
-Exhaust eventually , I will try to build mine at school
-clip-ons I have them have to machin spacers to fit them
-bar end mirrors
-New seat my mom will help thru this she do alot of artisnal work
-rear-sets
-new headlight bucket mine is broking
-fork dust protectors mine are craked
-Paint have no idea I might want raw metal aspect
-More tools

It's a long list but I am not planing to finish the build before next winter, but the bike would be ready to roll this summer.
The things that are holding me to start are
- A car because winter season and far travling is no easy thing to do with the metro-bus
- My familly and I are moving so as soon as the moving is finished I have a aproximativly 2 months of warm apartement space to work on my bike only issue it's on the sixth floor!!!!

finished with the blabla here are the pics!

Cool bike for $300. Man, I need to get a compression tester. Thumbs are surprisingly inaccurate.

Here's a great link for manuals & tech bits... http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

Let me know if you can't find something. I'll be pulling a GS750 engine over the winter that has about 2000 miles on a rebuilt top end.
Most of the electrical gremlins are easy to deal with, especially if you some of the mods that solve the problems with a little modern help.

I can be found on most all of the UJM forums under the same screen name.

thanks dardoonk I already have the bassclif reference got it on theGsressource, If you have a headlight bucket that you don't need I would be glad to buy it from you.

If somebody passes on my topic I am looking for any simple forme tank with no carving in it( softspot for squarish forms) , the only thing that I care is that the exterior has to be exempt of rust, but a bit of rust would not scare me !!

BIG UPDATE!

Was looking for vespa's just to know how much they were selled and I found some huge storage place where the owner is a fan of cafe racer he and his buddy own two royal enfield's and plan to also build a café racer during all winter I will be working there.

as soon as I start stripping the beast I will post pictures!

It's been a longtime I did not put any update , probably because they were no big updates
I have machined spacers to fit my clip- had problems with my weights that would not unscrew so I used a grinder to cut them but the bolt won't unscrew yet!Other issue is that the brake lines interfere with head light bucket If some one could help me with this minor problem I will be grateful
Also bought new sparkplugs new gaskets for the carbs, Dyna-s ignition that I have installed but not set the timing yet, replaced the old stripped bolts with ss alen bolts
here some pictures of the progress of the stripping

Next step is fabricating the rear cowl and seat
set the timing for the ignition
repair the sticking throttle (throttle tube is to small for the clip-on I will replace it with a zx6 on that came with the clip-ons)
start it for the first time in months
ordering parts like blinkers mirrors headlight bucket air filters and work on the gas tank
replace all the fluids

The project is moving slowly of course but I think it will be finished just in time for the middle of august

small update I have ordered speedo plus air filters and blinkers ! picture and video of the first start soon
Someone knows how to tint yellow the headlight??

You can either paint the lense with a clear yellow paint or my prefered route would be the clear yellow plastic they use are headlight lenses since its removable, cheaper to replace, and helps protect agianst scratching.

I am going with the painting option as my headlight is sealed
Worked on the bike a Little bit made some adjustments to the clip on for the height still not quite it due to tank clearance running stock mirrors setup for the moment and I have changed the banjo bolt position so headlight bucket fits.
Also draw a RPM support withhole for the ignition (Waiting to be fabricated)
I am still waiting on the my parts from z1 enterprise and dime city cycle :(
here some pictures and a small video of the first start!

first start vid is not uploading right :S it's a realplayer format can anyone help me?
