Handle bars (newb alert)

I wanted to replace my handle bars with something lower profile. Not clubman bars or anything, just something lower.

This is my first bike and I was just wondering what my options are? What would you recommend and why? I do apologize for the newb questions but I've always found other people the best source of info on this stuff.

I did find some superman bars that I may go with.

7/8" diameter
4.5" wide center section
9" long upper grip area
2.5" Rise
5" Pull back
35" Overall length

Yes - it's 'superbike' not 'superman' bars you're after. Something with a 2-3 inch rise should be good, and you can chop a couple inches off the ends to narrow them up a bit. Just make sure you leave enough room for controls and grips.

Haha

For the record I meant to say super sport bars....not superman.

I'm going to go ahead and get these ones.

And remember you can buy those bars anywhere. Dont spend more than $30 or so. Should be able to get them locally.

How much narrower would you go and why? Not a loaded question. genuinely curious.

Looks like I have to get some holes made in the bars so the wiring can be run through them.

Mostly personal preference. Wider bars are nice for around town, low speed handling etc. More leverage on the steering.

Measure how wide your bars are now, tip to tip. My BMW Euro spec bars are only 28 inches I think. Those are very narrow.

Many don't bother drilling the bars but rather run the wiring externally. You might have to notch the control switch pods to allow the wiring to run outside but thats easy with a dremel tool and easier than running them in the bars.

The switch pods likely also have small pins that line up with small holes in the bars. These prevent the switches from rotating on the bars. Either you have to drill the new bars to match or clip the posts on the switches short. Otherwise you can damage the switches if you try tightening them down.

Check JCWhitney for bars. Cheapest I've found.
I just got some euro bars for 24 shipped to my door.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I am going with the crome and not the black. What bar end mirrors would match my bike well? Recommendations?

Ugh.

Just when I made a decision. I find something else.

These bad boys have the holes drilled already. Any thoughts on putting these on a cb360?

Having the name "Supermotoish" in the title immediately disqualifies them from consideration. ::)

Really, drilling holes is not a big deal, and $34 + shipping for those bars is highway robbery.

agreed! what the hell is 'super moto-ish'... i have a supermoto, it uses dirt bike bars, not supermoto bars... uhg kids these days!

i see you already ordered bars but i was going to say you can go to any bike shop and check out the dirt bike bars to find a bend(rise) you like then go from there... unfortunately its tough to tell what you really like until its on the bike and you've ridden it for a bit.. If my super bike bars dont work out ill swap to fat bar (1 1/8) mounts on the triple then go to good old renthal cr hi bends

I live in rural alberta. Most of the places here don't carry a lot of stock and can "order stuff" in (meaning they basically order it on the web for you). Took a bit of a risk on the bars and am fully prepared to eat the $34 + shipping if things don't work out. I know some people have had issues finding room to mount the master cylinder and some issues with routing the clutch and throttle cables so they aren't all bunched up at the gauges.

$34 is robbery? Seems pretty reasonable to me. That will get you a 15 pack of beer here in Canada.

yeah really ! being able to sit at home and have the part delivered to your door is worth 10-15 dollers all by itself

im in Edmonton! all my parts come from online as well so dont feel bad.. the guys in the US get free shipping and all that good stuff.. My bars cost me $50 shipped or so, which is fine by me, dirt bars are $110 so this still feel cheap! hahaha

as for room, just dont cut the bars till you have everything you need mounted on them. once all that is on you can decide to cut or not
