Harley Recall

In 2004 they went to rubber mounted engines. Added width and weight to the Sportsters and reduced lean angle and agility.

Thanks man - Thats all I wanted to know. I did some googling, but it was more of harley telling you what they'd improved and less why it wasn't a great change.

-Ben.

Yeah...They claim that vibration is reduced, but I've ridden a rubber mount and it shakes as much as my 92 frame mount. Funny thing is, people talk about how bad the Sportster vibrates, but after riding a Yamaha XS-650 and a 1964 Norton Atlas, the Sportster seems a smooth as a baby's a**. But...most of the Harley folks complaining about vibration are motor-couch riders who bitch if is isn't as smooth as their BMW or Lexus. With all the garbage on their bikes, they may as well be driving.

they may as well be driving..<let me finish that sentence for you>.....a chrome covered Camry with a 20,000 Harley logo on the side like I said dude.... ;)

Looks like a late 60s -early 70s Bendix for all Big Twin and Sportster Harleys. The age can be determined (approx.) by the AMF Harley-Davidson casting on the side. AMF owned Harley from 69 to 77.
As far as I know all Bit Twins (FLH, FX, FXE, etc) and Sportsters used the same Bendix carb.

Dave

69-83 AMF generic. Jet sizes determined whether it was for an Ironhead or a Shovelhead. Kept clean, once properly jetted was a decent unit. Unlike the Keihin and Mikuni CV versions that followed them, or the Chevrolet sourced fuel injection.

Harley Davidson proper went out of business in 1968, but they quit making good bikes in 1964 (last of the kick only 6v Big Twins). The nosecone Shovel (100% AMF), the Evo and the Twinkie (Kawasaki-Yamaha-Toyota) are NOT Harley Davidson engines. They may sort of look the part, but, so do the Road Star and V2K...

So then what would you say this busted old 40 mm bendix off an "82" with a rebuild kit would go for ....ball park....? Ebay prices are as low as $4.99 and upwards of $500 i guess its all a waiting game

So, the simple act of owning and/or riding a Harley does not guarantee one will see bare boobs.
And if it does/did, then what does that say about the owner/rider? Or about the girl doing the flashing? ::)

6 out of 6 years (o)(o)

It says I still have good eyes, and them young girls are dumb as a box of rocks......

Since everyone except restoration types want an S&S, you just have to list it and keep your fingers crossed.

That clip shows the right way to brake. Fortunately the rider stayed off the front brake and didn't go flying over the handlebars.... ;D

So it doesn't matter if you turn right or pass right as long as you brake right. Not sure how sliding off of a cliff is evidence of proper braking.
