Honda 650 single

Wheels and front end fitted, rear is just a rebuilt stock one but with an 18" rim. Forks are 1st gen Bandit which are the same diameter as the orig Honda forks and give a small increase in trail but more importantly have a larger disc than the Honda one, using the Suzi caliper as well means everything bolts up with no messing around with caliper spacing or different brackets etc...wheel bearings and spacer need to be changed as the Honda spindle is 15mm and the Suzi one 17mm
The disc itself is from a Cagiva Gran Canyon....correct diameter and fits the Honda hub!

Bike pork...is that like bike porn but meatier! Thanks though, I'm enjoying this build as I've done several before and no awkward problems cropping up....only real problem my memory....I write stuff down to do and still manage to forget it....the other day I painted the frame only to realise I'd forgotten the bracket for the master cylinder reservoir and today noticed I'd also forgotten the speedo sensor bracket too....oh well
Motor in today, the bike it came from had only done 9,000 miles so it just had a top end strip and checkover and a coat of VHT....made a lift out of a couple of old scissor jacks, its not the heaviest thing in the world but saves a lot of swearing, scratched paint etc...
On with the wiring next....my favourite!

Using a Black Widow 2 into 1 exhaust made for an XBR....those have a cradle frame so there was a nasty looking gap between pipes and the crankcase....chopped an inch out of the downpipes!

Thanks, finished the wiring the other day and now on the seat, tank, etc....
I make the frames with threaded bosses in the end of the top tubes....do it that way to locate them in the jig....then add another piece that bolts to those threads and has mounts for the indicators, no plate, and tail light. The seat has a couple of tapered pins rivetted to it at the front that locate into tabs in the frame....in the pic theres a piece of steel strip joining the 2 pins....I make it like that so as to align correctly then cut the joining bit off.....then theres a bolt that holds the seat in place threaded into the light mount
The seat base is made by taking a mould from the actual seat, then taking a 2nd mould from the first one....so as to give the right shape but leaves a small gap (thickness of the 1st mould) all around for the covering to tuck under....

Thanks but I think thats more the camera making it look that way....once its out in the open it'll look more compact...the dimensions, in terms of wheelbase, rake, wheel sizes, seat height etc are all the same as a Manx Norton!

The Commando Fastback was one of the most elegant, visually balanced factory cafes of all time.

I've just googled one of those and I see what you mean....though to be honest the design is based on a Mk 3 Seeley frame....!
Anyhow, after a very hot and sweaty few days its finally finished, bar a few minor bits to sort out....

Oh well, another 3 years gone!
While I was building the red bike I made an extra frame and started putting together another one for my own use.....and never got round to finishing it....which finally happened today!
Modified the rear part of the frame so as to locate all the electrical components without needing to alter the stock loom and fitted a Lucas 'beehive' tail light....
010.JPG

And altered the rear part of the seat to suit.....
019.JPG

Fitted a Koso speedo/tacho.....and re routed the cables (after I took the pic)....
011.JPG

I built the engine a good while ago but as far as I remember it had a ProX piston and a cam from somewhere in Germany.....and the other day it got a 41mm Keihin flatslide....
