Honda Build

Been Around the Block
Hey everyone

Hope you have been well.

Ive been posting in other forums on this site and have really had a better, and different experience from the last time round.

Ive learned to listen a bit more to ppl who are really passionate about this bike culture and things are progressing well.

My bike ended up in the hands of a super capable builder who is probably one of the most standup dudes Ive ever met. Incredibly nice and fair guy who treats my bike like its his own as the build goes along.

The bike was pristine when I bought it except for shoddy carbs and a few other normal shortcomings on a 40-something year old bike.

I expect all the work to be done shortly and will be riding soon. Since im new to bikes, any input is appreciated. Im a little daunted about riding in these mean NYC streets, but ultimately Im a pretty fearless guy. Whatever happens, happens.

Below are pics of the bike when I got it, and the progress thus far
hagon shocks,
bought a spare tank, stripped it and have had it thrown on the bike. Im going to let it surface rust -
had the carbs rebuilt
battery tray fabricated and welded on
seat hoop welded on
shinko 712 tires put on
Euro bars put on
signal lights changed
etc

lol funny! the best "i dont give a fuck" message is to say nothing at all. My big bro taught me that. To say or show "i dont give a fuck" in any way, really shows a person cares about letting people know they dont give a fuck, which means they really do give a fuck. Silence is the most effective "fuck you" of all. It shows total disinterest and detachment. When I dont give a fuck, i just shut the fuck up. Its a very powerful thing to do.

Nice choice on the hagons. Are you going to clear the tank after it rusts a little? Cleaning the rusty orange runoff on your pristine engine could become frustrating.

good point. Yes, i'll keep it under control. I do want the bike to be a little funky looking though. A mix of beat up and clean. Im thinking of NOT painting over the seat hoop with the welds, and simply leaving it, not painting it black.

The hagons were suggested by the dude building it and hes super knowledgable and helpful.

I kinda made a half promise to my builder to give it to him. I havent fully committed though. If he doesnt want it, yep, you may, and the airfilter covers as well. im pretty generous...let me know what else you might need.

Re: 1972 Honda CB 350F Build. Update

Please let me know, I could use the tank on another project. Also, it's probably not necessary, but you may consider larger washers at the end of the eye mounts at the top of the shocks. I find they like to wander a little, and since your washer is the same size as the rubber, it could travel past it. Again, I'm sure there are others that will not agree, but it's such an easy thing to do, I do it on my bikes.

Thanks! I'll def have that checked over. Probably will do it myself.

looks like we have the same shocks. is it as straight forward as removed the bolt, pulling off the washer, putting on the new one and re-tightening/

Yes.

Re: 1972 Honda CB 350F Build. Update

Nope. It's smaller than the outside diameter of the eye on the shock.

ah. thanks. Another question. What is the correct bike chain to get for our 350F's? I have a 1972. Im a bit confused. Ive seen O ring and Non O ring chains and listings like 530-94, 530-96 etc. And me, knowing zilch about bikes, have no idea what to get or where. FYI I want a black chain. Any ideas?

Re: 1972 Honda CB 350F Build. Update

Wow, some guys would be offended at "molesting" such a cherry bike, I'm sure. Have fun with it though man, what are your plans for it?

Shit I can't remember, I think stock is 94 I'd have to check. I didn't get an o ring chain since I remember reading something about clearance issues somewhere. As for black, I didn't go that route not sure where to get it.

You know, if I had to do it all over again I might have left it. It was beautiful for sure but...whats done is done. My goal is to have it look something like this:

I'm anything but a purist so I totally support it. Automobiles can be so much more than just transportation, ya know? You put your heart and soul into it it becomes a very expression of self, personalized art. That is, if you're into that sort of thing, I guess if not you'd probably just buy a Harley/Corvette and join the gang, hahah!
