Forget about plugs when checking the idle speed/slow jets. And engine speed is a second order effect.

Wrap some tape around the throttle/body and use a sharpie to mark 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 3/4 and full and put a small piece of tape with mark on it as an indicator.

Starting from cold should require choke.enricher, so just get it started and get it warm. Air screw should be between about 3/4 turn out and 1 3/4 turns out. If it works better with the air screw further out, the pilot jet is too large.

Once you get it to idle, find a nice long road with slight hill and ride it wide open up that hill and do a plug chop. Do not ride home with the same plugs in. Take the plugs out and examine them or swap in a spare set and take those home to examine them in safety.

For main jet you want the center insulator to be white. Mixture you read where the insulator meets the shell. Look for signs of pepper spots (detonation) or cement boil which are signs of overheating from lean mixture, wrong plugs or too much ignition advance.

Once you get those dialled in, try 1/2 throttle to 3/24 and move the needles up or down to change mixture strength there.

Thanks guys will def get into it This next week. Perhaps my 30 pilot is a little large then because I think I got max rpm out or 2 turns out with the air screw. I have a 25 I could give it a shot and see if it's better.

It's been a long and rusty road but I think i am at a good stopping point on this old girl. She runs pretty good right now once you get er going still needs some fine tuning on the carbs but I got a couple gaskets changed put some High grade honda oil in and it holds it like a motor should. I spend alot of time just staring at it in my basement. lol. Still got a few things to do with it like rear sets, I'd like to upgrade rear shocks, gonna have to rebuild the front forks this winter and Get new Rubber. But Here it is.

Looks great! So now we can ride! I'm out of town this weekend and work next, maybe over Labor day weekend?

Matt

Very nice, now please add a front section to that rear fender to keep rocks, dog shit and water off the engine and out of the filters. Racers all have rear fenders/rock guards on clean dry tracks. How is it that cafe racers have a force field to keep that stuff at bay?

Can't do it teazer. She is just a dirty whore i guess who spreads her frame for anyone.

Dropped the needle down 1 notch (to lean it out) performance improved a good deal. May try to take it to the top notch of the needle and see how it feels. Also put the 25 pilot in. It is better off the line and the air screw adjust is at 1 1/4 rather than the 2 turns for the 30 so i feel that's pretty solid. Running pretty damn well now. The 145 seems to be pretty great at the top end so i am not gonna mess with success. so my setup that i am running now is.

VM30 pilot: 25 -needle 6f4 -159 p5 (needle on 2nd clip from top), 2.5 cutaways, 145 mains.

Prob gonna stay that way for awhile

When she's good she's good, but when she's bad she's better!

Had a fuck all day today. Got the bike on the road and another fucking coil gave out. These aftermarket jobies just suck donkey tits. Bike really moves smooth when both cylinders are in full effect. I don't get it this is the second coil i have had go bad. At first it was just intermittently firing then hardly at all. Switched to my other coil to ensure this is the issue. yep cylinder fires strong with other coil. shit nuggets. The thing is it sparks just not well enough to ignite the cylinder with the crap coil. On another note i was out riding when it was still going ok and got a bee up my shirt stung me 3 times. i pulled over like FUUUCK bike stalled. I looked down my GD kicker fell off somewhere.. Great... so i try to bump start it for like 20 min (doesn't work that well with only 1 good cylinder.) Get home only to find my lisence plate fell off somewhere GEEBUS . Going over some crap tightening em up ..

wow, that just sucks man... I've got aftermarket el-cheapo coils too but so far they haven't let me down. I lost my plate on an early tune up test ride also, so I feel your pain... I had a to do list for the bike as I was building it up and "tighten and loctite freakin' everything" was an actual item on the list... and I still lost my plate! good luck getting her back together!

Thanks Man i appreciate that. I am flogging the crap out of it daily right now. She likes to go more and more each day. It's a real blast to tool around on. Still needs a few loose ends but i am gonna hold off for the season will get new tires this winter and prob some rear sets. Decals were custom made by Sonreir He is a member on DTT in the infamous cb360 crew. <--JK there is no such crew but in my mind there is. Anyhow yeah he did exactly what i asked him too. I couldn't source cream decals anywhere.

Thanks guys. I will be working on getting it a little more refined over the winter. I have another frame that i plan on building it up again on with some welded plates for rear sets. (that frame is actually titled .. shhhh) I also would like to get a micro speedo, Needs some new tires and possibly relace the rims too. I also need to clean up the wiring. I wanted to get it riding well before going all out. I like riding it so much i figure it's time to go all in. I have 2 spare engines for parts so this is a bike i plan on owning for a long time. I havent done any work on it some time. Love me a 350 it's got alot of pep for a lil motor. People just love the bike too which is rewarding when you work hard on something. Keep up the good work guys

I have these that Im not gonna use if you or anyone want them. Got them from DCC. I think they were about 50 ea. I never installed them, decided to go with a GPS speedo and its twin tach from speed moto.

Your bike is gorgeous. Has it ever been nominated for bike of the month? I think it could be a contender.

I love the custom seat! Ever since seeing a DCC video with Herm making one, I've wanted to try it. What upholster did you go to? As a fellow Clevelander, I might be able to give them a little business when the time is right.

Hey thanks man but i don't think it is near that level of machine at this point. I love it though. It was a fun thing to do for me and i am still working on it to get it running tip top. You should definately come out riding with us this next year. I used an upholsterer from kent called http://candjmotorsports.com/ They did it quick and it turned out perfect for like 100 bux. it really worked out. It was really hard to get that seat to work man. Took me 2 tries but it's worth it to have that custom slim look. I posted up on here some of my trials and tribulations making that damn thing. Anyhow thanks for the compliment gives me some incentive to get it going hard this summer.
